"e purpose of Wellness Day is to invite the com- munity to enjoy our beautiful campus for a free event that the entire family can enjoy," said Sandy Am- mons, executive director of FTCC Foundation. "After the past year, I think we can all appreciate the need for more mental wellness and physical fitness." Although this will be the first Wellness Day, Ammons said they hope to make it an annual event. "is event is free and open to the public. ere's no registration or tickets," she said. "Food is available for purchase from local food trucks between 11-2. Free classes will be held throughout the day." "Providing free classes are HealthPlex, Pure Barre, Living Balance Studios and Roland's Dance Studio. Several student groups will have tents." e mammography students will provide informa- tion on breast cancer awareness. Nursing students will do blood pressure checks and offer bone marrow registration. Dental hygiene students will provide information on oral health. Students from the Horti- culture Club will offer gardening therapy. FTCC Wellness Day will be a great opportunity to try yoga, T'ai Chi and Pure Barre. ose who wish to participate should wear comfortable clothes that allow you to stretch and bring an exercise mat and water bottle. "e classes will take place outdoors in shaded and grassy areas or on a patio and can be taken with or without shoes," Ammons said. "e instructors will provide guidance for those who are very experi- enced and those who are trying these for the first time." "Bring your dance partner for the shag lessons from Roland's Dance Studio in the afternoon," she added. "e instructors will be happy to discuss their program after the class for those who want more information." ose who wish to participate for the first time are advised to use caution and consult their physician before participating in new exercise activities. e Wellness Walk, Scavenger Hunt and Geocach- ing are all self-guided activities that are available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. "Maps and guide will be provided for those activi- ties at the welcome tent and on our website," Am- mons said. "e Wellness Walk will take you through lovely parts of the FTCC campus including the beau- tiful camelia trails. e majority of the route is paved or sidewalks but the trail is gravel. e route is about 1.25 miles and will be marked with signs." e items on the Scavenger Hunt will be visible from the Wellness Walk route. Participants can look for interesting art, historical artifacts, plantings and quirky items. Geocaching is "the world's largest treasure hunt" according to Geocaching.com. ere are currently 3 geocaches on FTCC's campus and Ammons said they are adding new ones for Wellness Day. To find the geocaches, individuals will need to download the Geocaching free app and follow the instructions. All exercise and dance activities will be on either side of Hull Road between Ft. Bragg Road and Devers Street. ere will be special event parking signs for open parking. ere will be signs visible from the road advertising each of the classes. e Tony Rand Student Center will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for those who want to learn more about enrolling in classes. Representatives from Ad- missions, Continuing Education and Financial Aid will be on hand to discuss opportunities. e Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. ere's no appointment needed for the blood drive, but registration will take place in the student center and the Vessel (bloodmobile) will be parked behind the building. Cape Fear Valley Health's LifeLink Air will land around noon and offer tours of the helicopter. Rep- resentatives will be available to discuss careers in emergency medicine. e Scouts will offer two merit badge classes on bicycle safety and geocaching. Scouts should register for the classes through their Troop. e bicycle safety classes are open to all youth, no registration needed, just bring your bike. FTCC student athletes will pro- vide youth sport skills clinics. e public is invited to come and enjoy the beauty of FTCC's campus and participate in healthy and fun activities for the entire family. About 25 vendors will be selling their products each week, and they include a variety of farmers, ranchers, artists and artisans. Saira Meneses, co-owner of Purpose Driven Family Farm, expressed her own excitement: "We're thrilled to be part of e District Summer Market this year; it's going to be, without a doubt, a great addition to downtown Fayetteville, and my husband, AJ, and I are looking forward to introducing our farm and unique products to attendees."
