Page 2 the sophon Spring 2021 "Since my fellowship, I have been one of two regional orthopedic oncologists for Kaiser Northern California/Hawaii and Chief of the department at South San Francisco Medical Center," he stated. "Orthopedics is a great mix of medicine and technology/engineering. Plus, doing surgery is just a ton of fun." Andrew specializes in orthopedic oncology, which can be challenging in terms of patients and procedures than in different areas of focus in the medical field. "Sarcomas are a rare cancer and can affect children and teens," he explained. "Being diagnosed with cancer is a really difficult time for the parents and children. However, the rewards of successfully helping the patients and families through their treatments are immeasurable." He married his college sweetheart, Robbie, an Alpha Gamma Delta he met at West Quad. They live in Burlingame, California, and have two wonderful children: Sophia, a sophomore in high school; and Ryan, a senior in high school, who was recently accepted to the University of Michigan. "We are really excited to spend more time in Ann Arbor!" Wolverine SCHOLARSHIPS M ike Etzioni '87 exemplified everything that I would want in a fraternity brother and leader. He had a calm, pleasant demeanor and got along well with just about everybody. Mike had inherent leadership skills and he used them to serve our fraternity in many capacities. He served as chapter President and several other leadership positions. Mike counseled dozens of brothers about matters big and small and was universally respected and admired by the Michigan Alpha brothers who attended UM from 1987 to 1990. If I had to pick one adjective to describe Mike, it would be consistent. He was consistent in all his personal relationships. I never once wondered if Michael and I were still friends. From the moment we became friends in 1988, I knew that we were friends. I felt that every time we were together. It was tangible and palpable. He had this innate ability to make me feel relevant. Mike graduated from the University of Michigan with his bachelor's and law degrees. He moved to the Los Angeles area in 1992 and had a distinguished career as an attorney in Southern California. Mike worked for Latham & Watkins and served in the General Counsel's office for the House of Blues organization. Mike was taken from this earth as a young man in 2006, leaving behind his wife, Lainie, and two children, Max and Maya. Alumni are encouraged to donate to the Michigan Alpha (Michael R. Etzioni) Scholarship fund by visiting PKPFoundation.org.
