A L P H A C H I C H A P T E R 5 William Wood '47 entered Chapter Eternal on January 10, 2021, a few days short of his 94th birthday. He grew up on the water and enjoyed sailing, fishing, and crabbing during his youth in several boats handcrafted by his master carpenter father and later fishing in his Seabird with family and friends. Bill was a veteran and dentist, practicing from 1955 to 1992. He is survived by his four children, four grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Keith G. Horne '52 entered Chapter Eternal on August 14, 2020, at the age of 87 after battling COVID-19. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; daughter, Dr. Alison Horne; grandson, Joshua; and granddaughter, Sydney. Keith had a 21-year career in the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Keith was an avid reader and considered education very important as evidenced by his degrees from Mississippi State College (two degrees), University of Maine, Stanford University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. He taught at JCJC for 18 years and was on the Jones County School board for 16 years. He was a resident of Ellisville, Miss., where he was a member of Ellisville Rotary and an officer of the Jones County Genealogical and Historical Organization. Thomas Murphree Jr. '59 entered Chapter Eternal on February 2, 2020. Prior to his retirement, Tom lived in Memphis, Tenn., and worked many years for Kinder-Morgan as regional sales manager. Tom was known for his generosity and his fierce love for all things sports, especially his Mississippi State Bulldogs. Zack Melvin Jenkins '60 entered Chapter Eternal on December 7, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. He was a resident at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, Mississippi. He earned a bachelor's in accounting from Mississippi State University in 1961. He was a past president of the Mississippi Tax Assessors' Association and a member of the First Baptist Church in Sumner where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon for over 50 years. His passion was his wife, Edna, and his family. He and Edna were married for more than 56 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jimmy Gipson '65 entered the Chapter Eternal in November 2020 after his battle with cancer. Kevin Stewart '90 entered Chapter Eternal on March 3, 2021. He was a longtime coach and teacher for Caledonia High School and, most recently, Columbus High School. His love of coaching included football, baseball, softball, basketball, and golf. He is survived by his wife, Tabitha; children: Quincy, Drew, Bailey Ann, Lauren, and Brady; granddaughter: Awbree Teah; mother, Judy; sister, Kim (Brett); and nephew, Brett.
