WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM MARCH 17-23, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Multitasking Northern California plastic surgeon Scott Green surprised officials in Sac- ramento Superior Court on Feb. 25 when he appeared for a traffic trial via videoconference from what ap- peared to be an operating room, the Sacramento Bee reported. As clicks and whirs of medical equipment and suctions could be heard in the back- ground, a courtroom clerk questioned his whereabouts, and Green, dressed in hospital scrubs, admitted, "Yes, I'm in an operating room right now. I'm available for trial. Go right ahead." Despite Green's repeated assurances, Court Commissioner Gary Link was skeptical: "I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of a patient if you're in the process of operating ... I don't think that's appropriate." The trial was rescheduled for later in March. Cali- fornia's Medical Board said in a state- ment it was investigating the incident. Crime Report Sharon Carr of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was arrested by officers responding to a residential burglary call on Feb. 26 when she stepped from the shadows in front of the victim's house. Investiga- tors found a window screen removed and a window open, where they allege Carr entered the home but quickly left, leaving behind an empty Cheetos bag and a water bottle. Cheetos residue on Carr's teeth linked her to the crime, re- ported KTUL-TV, along with testimo- ny from the victim. Carr was charged with first-degree burglary. Devil's in the Details Amazon released a new icon for its shopping app in January with what was supposed to look like a jagged piece of tape on a package above Amazon's smiling arrow logo but in- stead reminded some viewers of Adolf Hitler's mustache, CBS News reported. After Twitter users commented on the resemblance, Amazon tweaked the art and rolled out a more squared-off ver- sion in late February. Lost and Found Phoenix police were called to a home on Feb. 21 by homeowners who unearthed a duffel bag filled with rusted handguns and assault rifles while digging hole in their backyard to plant a tree, Fox News reported. Of- ficers said the guns will be examined to determine if they were used in any crimes. The residents have lived in the house for four years; before that, it was a rental property. Question: I have been waiting for the new "Walker" series on e CW. Having watched the first few episodes, I am so disappointed. In the original series, my favorite with Chuck Norris, the shows were exciting to watch. Norris was a martial-arts experts and the fight scenes kept you on the edge of your seat. So far, this version has Walker a defeated man by the death of his wife, so much so, he comes off as not very macho and has yet to display any fight in him. Can I look forward to this show getting any better when it comes to fighting for right over wrong and good over evil? — Linda Matt Roush: is seems to be the pre- vailing opinion so far in my mailbag, and I'm not surprised that anyone who tuned in hoping for a carbon copy of the Chuck Norris hit would be disap- pointed by a show that (as I wrote upon its premiere) has "more angst than ac- tion" and a title character who "leads as much with his emotions as his fists." e CW hasn't provided advance epi- sodes, so there's no way to know if this initial period of resetting the premise is an indication of what's to come. Still, Walker has done well for e CW so far — even dropping in the second week, it topped 2 million viewers on a ursday, which is big for this small network — but it does seem a weird hybrid of a CBS premise adapted to fit a CW star. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "Resident Alien" for giv- ing fans a close encounter of the best kind with star Alan Tudyk. After years of scene-stealing supporting roles and voice work, the hilarious "Doom Patrol" alum has landed the perfect starring vehicle as an awkwardly evil E.T. posing as a small-town doctor in Syfy's delight- fully dark new dramedy. Jeers to "Wandavision" for distracting us with too many Easter eggs. We get that Disney+'s Marvel series expects viewers to know Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany's supercouple from the "Avengers" movies, but understanding all the little nods to characters from "or," "Ant-Man," "Captain America" and "Captain Marvel," not to mention obscure comic book plots, is far from a snap.
