Not only did I get a pro- found community history lesson, but I became over- whelmed with pride at the work ethic, dedication and intestinal fortitude dem- onstrated by Fayetteville's founding leadership. Ten de- cades of infectious and moti- vating intentions is best described in only two words: Do good. Writing, producing and designing the Fayetteville Kiwanis 100th An- niversary Edition of Up & Coming Weekly was an actual labor of love not only for me but for our entire staff. For most, it provided them their very first insights into the origins, vision and rich history of our community. It created for them a foundation of pride and a better understanding of our community. I think it mostly made them aware of the immense and abundant em- pathy, compassion, kindness and sense of generosity that Fayetteville residents naturally radiate out to humanity. Well, our newspaper realized this twenty-five years ago and built an entire publishing company show- casing and accentuating Fayette- ville's unique benevolence. A be- nevolence we are proud of and one we need not profit from. Our small financial donation of proceeds from the issue goes to the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club to help support the work and significant impact they have on children in our community through the hosting of dozens of lo- cal programs. I have found that two sayings have always been accurate and have never failed to motivate and inspire me: One — Always do the right things for the right reasons. Two — KIDS NEED KIWANIS! ank you for reading Up & Coming Weekly. BILL BOWMAN, Publisher, UP & COMING WEEKLY. COM- MENTS? BILL@upandcomin- gweekly.com. 910-484-6200.
