WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM FEBRUARY 17-23, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Oops The Monroe Township (Michigan) Fire Department launched a rescue mission on Jan. 26 after receiving a call about a goose or duck possibly injured and in distress on the frozen River Rai- sin. Firefighters suited up and headed out on the ice, WXYZ-TV reported, but realized upon closer inspection that the bird was just a hunting decoy. "It ended up being a good training ses- sion, actually," said Chief Mark Cher- ney. "In the end, we can sleep well at night. A bird is not suffering." Alarming Headlines Police in Rome, New York, respond- ing to an animal cruelty complaint on Jan. 13, arrived at a home to find a man cooking a canine on an outdoor grill, police said. The unnamed man cooperated with police, saying the animal was a coyote — which would be legal in New York, as hunting and trapping the canines is allowed with a license, WNBC-TV reported. Animal control officers took the carcass to Cornell University for testing to deter- mine its species. The Continuing Crisis Authorities who pulled over a pickup truck in Elsberry, Missouri, soon discovered the vehicle had been stolen, KMOV-TV reported on Jan. 25, so they headed to the owner's home, where they found skeletal remains in another vehicle in the garage and a ransacked house. Lincoln County Sheriff Rick Harrell said the body may have been there since last summer and "a group of criminal opportunists ... had just ransacked the residence and taken many items. We've recov- ered stolen vehicles, stolen firearms and tens of thousands of dollars in other related items." The scavengers would have had to walk right past the body for months as they removed items, he added. Prosecutors are working to bring charges against 25 suspects. Investigators have not yet identified the remains. Awww Russell Jones of London couldn't figure out why his dog, Billy, was favoring one of his front paws while walking. He took the pet to the vet- erinarian to have X-rays, United Press International reported, but the vet found nothing wrong. Jones, however, had recently broken his own ankle and was wearing a cast and limping. At the $400 vet visit, the doctor suggested that Billy was simply imitating his owner. Man's best friend, indeed. Question: I thought that the upcoming crime drama "Coyote" with Michael Chiklis was supposed to be on the Para- mount Network, but it's now going to CBS All Access. What's up with that? Isn't the Paramount Network also more af- filiated with NBC and not CBS? Case in point: All three seasons of "Yellowstone" with Kevin Costner are now streaming on Peacock, and as a Comcast subscriber at least I could have seen it at no addi- tional charge. If I now want to see this, it will cost me an additional $6 a month charge — how totally disgusting! — JV Matt Roush: It's all so confusing, but this is the direction the industry is headed. It's really already there; wit- ness how National Geographic's remake of "e Right Stuff " was co-opted by Disney+ once those brands merged. In terms of affiliations, though, don't be confused by who snaps up rights to individual shows, because it doesn't always make sense. "Yellowstone" was licensed to Peacock, but Paramount is Viacom is CBS, and the move of "Coy- ote" to streaming was at least as much about the transition of the Paramount Network into an all-movie network, though "Yellowstone" will remain as its sole weekly series. (Complicating things further: Sometime in 2021, CBS All Ac- cess will be rebranded as Paramount+, got that?) To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous" for roaring back with an epic Season 2. Funny, smart and full of Easter eggs, Netflix's animated adven- ture about a group of teens trapped on the worst island resort ever is a TV thrill ride that's fun for the kids yet still has enough bite to keep the grown-ups en- raptured ... or is that raptor'd? Jeers to "e Sex and the City" Sequel for kicking Samantha out of bed. Now that it's been confirmed that Kim Cat- trall won't return for "And Just Like at...," HBO Max's follow-up to the hit comedy, we couldn't help but wonder: Is a threesome of just Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis) even that Sex-y?
