Zeta Psi Chapter 2 brothers were in attendance, including Andy Wolf '91 and Steve Wolf '94, his brothers by blood and by Sigma Chi, as well as Greg Meyer '93, one of his little brothers and friend for 30 years. AN INFLUENCE ON SIGMA CHI "Greg was a leader of the fraternity and a leader of men, which he showed time and again," said Greg Meyer, who served in chapter leadership under Greg. "There was clearly something special about him, and I think a lot of people saw that—both at Sigma Chi and across the university." In addition to becoming Homecoming King, Greg left a legacy and achievement at Zeta Psi. He helped turn things around in intramurals, academics, and more, making Sigma Chi a high-profile fraternity on the Cincinnati campus. "I was the oldest brother and therefore the first to go through many things growing up," Andy said. "But Greg always wanted more; he strove to excel in all that he put his mind to." The three Wolf brothers each contributed to the fraternity and each other's experience in different ways, Greg's way being through leadership. As Consul, he pushed hard for the brothers to earn the Chapter Peterson Award together, urging them to be much more than a social fraternity. Steve was initially nervous to have Greg as Consul, but he found that his brother held him to the same high but fair standards as everyone else. "We had members doing great work all over campus, and Greg made sure to celebrate all of their successes." A memory that especially stands out for Steve is his initiation, in which his two brothers both pinned him with the White Cross. He almost didn't join the brotherhood so he wouldn't be "Andy's and Greg's younger brother" once again, but looking back he feels he made the right decision as they grew together. "It was one more step in our journey, through which Greg guided and supported me." MEMORIES OF A BROTHER AND FRIEND Steve remembers Greg as a leader who could balance fun with responsibilities, such as looking after people during parties and keeping them safe. He also knew how to celebrate their victories, such as when UC basketball beat Memphis in 1993. "Next thing I knew, Greg was standing on the roof of our car attempting a UC cheer. It was one of the few times Greg was not his cool and collected self, all for a good cause." "Greg and [his wife] Christie created a wonderful family of their own that he loved deeply," Andy said. "Later, he facilitated all our family's love for the University of Cincinnati by getting us together for many sporting events that will forever make lasting impressions on my children's lives. I am so proud of all that he accomplished in his short time with us and sad to think of what more that he could have done." Greg was a devoted alumnus of Sigma Chi and UC. Whether or not he lived Cincinnati, Greg played an active role on the House Corporation and participated in discussions about our future plans. He faithfully visited the chapter house each year during Homecoming week. He also served as vice chairman of the UC Foundation and was slated to succeed fellow Zeta Psi brother Troy Neat '91 as chairman. "He was a North Star who was taken far too soon," Greg Meyer said. In addition to his fraternity and blood brothers, Greg is survived by his wife, Christie; his sons, Joseph and Kevin; his father, Thomas; and many more friends and family. He will be missed, but his influence on Sigma Chi and all who knew him lives on. To honor Greg's memory, an endowed scholarship for a UC walk-on football player is being created.
