2 F or 17 years, a group of Alpha-Phi Zeta brothers has organized a charity golf tournament in memory of Brother Jerry Griffin, ΑΦ714, who succumbed to colorectal cancer in 2002. Terry Falkner, ΑΦ711, a proud brother and former roommate of Jerry's, helped start the annual tournament in his honor. "One of Jerry's mottos was, 'Do something each day to make someone else's life better,'" Terry said. "That's what we have tried to do through the Jerry Griffin Memorial Golf Tournament." The tournament raises funds for the service club Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind), which Jerry was a member of for many years. The group focuses primarily on assisting those with hearing health issues; the tournament has raised more than $250,000 for Sertoma's charitable efforts. Jerry was a member and elder at Southminister Presbyterian Church. He was a certified public accountant by trade, president of the Young Men's Business Club of Birmingham, president of the Board of Travelers Aid, and was active in the Emmaus Community and Kairos Prison Ministry. Jerry is deeply missed by his friends, family, and brothers, who are glad to honor his memory through the tournament. Terry and his wife, Gayle, have been married for 30 years and live in Birmingham, Alabama. They have two grown children, Katie and Zach. If you'd like to connect with Terry or learn more about the Jerry Griffin Memorial Golf Tournament, he can be reached at tjfalkner@yahoo.com.
