Box 1296 Tuscaloosa, AL 35403 Address Service Requested IN MEMORIAM Ralph Loveless Jr., AΦ503 passed away March 16, 2020, at 83 after complications of congestive heart failure. He and his wife, Kathy, shared 61 years of marriage and raised two daughters, Laura and Linda. He served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Ralph practiced law and was an assistant district attorney and judge for several years in Mobile, Ala. He retired in 2001 and moved to Perdido Key, Fla. Ralph was the president of the UA National Alumni Association in 1988-89 and served as district vice president, chapter board of directors member, and a chapter officer. Ralph was a proud member of the UA President's Cabinet and was honored by the National Alumni Association in 2002 as a distinguished alumnus. He was instrumental in the creation of the matching incentive program, encouraging alumni chapters and individuals to establish scholarship endowments that assist deserving students. In 2018, he established the Ralph P. and Mary K. Loveless Endowed Scholarship Fund in association with the Pensacola, Fla., alumni chapter. Ralph was an active member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church and Perdido Bay United Methodist Church. Daniel T. "Teddy" Hull Jr., AΦ654 passed away on March 15, 2020. He graduated with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering in 1964. He met Joan Parker when he unintentionally ignited a college chemistry lab exercise; they married in 1965. He pursued a career in engineering, including a brief stint living in Brussels, Belgium, with Joan in 1968 that was cut short by a car accident in Romania. Teddy decided to enter the legal profession, attending night law school at Samford's Cumberland School of Law, while practicing engineering and being admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1973. His son, Daniel T. Hull III (also Ted or Teddy), was born in 1972. He used his engineering skills to design the family home, and he oversaw its construction in the early 1970s. He always found time to be of service to the community. An avid outdoorsman, he was a chaperone for Brookwood Forest Elementary's annual weeklong 5th-grade environmental trip to Mentone, Alabama, well after his son had moved on. Ted was spoiled by Joan's cooking. Her early experimentation, driven by the French cooking of Julia Child, eventually developed into a reliable roster of comfort Ryan Alviggi | Morristown, N.J. Joan and Ted III knew that he was really sick just before he passed because he had no interest in cookies, which he never turned down before. Ted's grandchild, Iris, was born in 2005, and they shared a love of cookies. He was loved, he left a mark on the community, and he will be sorely missed. ALUMNI NEWS Jim Dickinson, AΦ588 and his wife, Barbara, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an eight-day trip to New Orleans, La., the city where they began their marriage. They wanted to relive the experience as the travelers who journeyed to New Orleans 150 years ago, so they booked transportation on a paddle wheel riverboat (American Queen Steamboat Company) from Memphis to New Orleans with stops in towns where cotton, agricultural products, and livestock would've been loaded for transportation to market. They enjoyed stops in Vicksburg and Natchez, which provided intriguing lessons on American history. Their trip included meals and sleeping quarters in a stateroom (rooms identified by states, not numbers). The river travel was refreshing and they learned a lot about the plantations they visited. Jim and Barbara have several ties to Louisiana. Barbara earned her master's degree of elementary education from the University of New Orleans. Jim served for five years in the Louisiana National Guard's 20th Special Forces Unit. Jim and Barbara have three children and six grandchildren. They live in Marshallton, Del.
