On behalf of the brothers of our Chapter, I can say confidently we are all content to be experiencing this semester in person, unlike many universities across the nation. It has been a rather unorthodox experience, but we still get to enjoy being in the same place. This semester has been incredibly unpredictable with unforeseen circumstances due to COVID-19, but I am happy to share with you some of the highlights, accomplishments, and insight into the unique experiences our Chapter has been through amidst the pandemic. Sharing the Gift of Good Food Our saving grace this semester has been our new food service, Gill Grilling. As a Chapter, we had to modify the way our food was prepared and delivered due to new health and safety guidelines. Since this new switch, all of the brothers have enjoyed a significant upgrade in food quality. Being locked inside to remain socially distant is much easier with great food! After hearing that Hurricane Sally was expected to hit parts of western and southern Alabama, we decided to organize a food drive to help our community in advance. Our philanthropy chairman, Hunter Gray, AΦ1912, challenged all the brothers and new associate members to collect canned food items to aid the victims affected by the hurricane. Together, our Chapter raised more than 500 pounds of food and donated it to the West Alabama Food Bank. Academic Achievement Despite the spring semester being cut short and moving to online learning, our Chapter still improved our cumulative GPA drastically from a 2.86 to 3.33, the highest our Chapter has seen in years. We will keep working to improve this number with the help of a solid associate new member class. Looking Ahead This semester has been one that will hopefully occur few and far between, but we are optimistic that we will be able to return to normal operations in the near future. As always, thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to connecting with alumni in person as soon as it's safe to do so. Miss Tara, one of our two chefs from Gill Grilling, who works hard to feed our brothers with the best meals possible. R ecruitment during the COVID-19 pandemic presented very unusual challenges on top of the already difficult task, but I had the privilege of serving as recruitment chairman for our 2020 new associate member class. We were not able to have Bama Bound orientations to bring incoming students from around the nation to Tuscaloosa to meet us. We constructed a plan to get men who lived in close proximity to come into town and then focused on the out of south men once they all moved in. We finished the recruitment period with 37 men from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, New Jersey, Texas, Kansas, California, Arizona, New York, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Maryland. This entire group has a great chance of being leaders and, as a result, a greater chance of being successful after college. I'm very excited for these men to continue the growth and success for our Chapter. In Z.A.X., Luke Boyd, AΦ1932 Recruitment Chairman lcboyd1@crimson.ua.edu Fall 2020 RecRuitment update
