ALPHA C HI REVIEW P H I K A P PA TA U | A L P H A C H I C H A P T E R | FA L L 2 0 2 0 THE PREPARING FOR A BETTER FUTURE THERE'S STILL TIME TO LEND YOUR SUPPORT EMBRACING YOUR ALPHA CHI LEGACY 2 020 certainly looked different when we prepared our spring news- letter for you. Since March, we have faced widespread challenges and hardships that will impact our daily lives for the foreseeable future. We hope that all of you have found support in recent months from your friends, loved ones, and brothers. Alpha Chi is moving forward with its goals as we adapt to a "new normal," and we are still counting on alumni support. As you may have read in a recent mailing, in light of ongoing struggles, the Bill Jones '60 challenge will now continue through December 31, 2020, giving brothers more time to maximize their giving potential. The challenge has raised nearly $28,000 so far and will match each gift dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Once again, here are a few ways you can help us reach our $1.5 million goal: 1. Extend you current gift or pledge into the future. Payments can be spread over several years. 2. Make a new pledge to Embracing Your Alpha Chi Legacy and join Bill's challenge. 3. Check in on your brothers and encourage those who are able to join you in this campaign. This semester has been a unique one for campuses nationwide, but we are pleased to say that Alpha Chi had a successful move-in this August. Members adhered to a strict schedule to limit exposure between one another, and restrictions remain in place for the house—this includes prohibiting visitors and live-outs from entering the house as the chapter continues working virtually and through socially distant events. Specific safety and cleaning procedures are also in place in the event a brother tests positive for COVID-19. If you have any questions, please contact us. We are merely $447,469 from securing the future of Phi Kappa Tau at Mississippi State, and to cross that finish line we need support from all brothers who are able. Together, we will persevere. Love and Respect, William Jones '60 Barry Toney '85 Campaign Co-Chairman Campaign Co-Chairman (919) 417-1947 (214) 926-3348 T here's no doubt that there are challenges to staying connected with your brothers after graduat- ing from Mississippi State, but thanks to the hard work and dedication of Gary Hawkins '61, Alpha Chi's alumni base is stronger than ever. We're sad to share that Gary suddenly entered Chapter Eternal on July 6, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. While Gary is no longer with us, Alpha Chi is committed to carrying on his passion for Phi Kappa Tau to honor his memory. We caught up with Charles Vail '63, Ed Graham '61, Mack Hataway '61, and Richard Gaston '61 to share Gary's impact on our brotherhood. From Alpha Chi Big Brother to Brother-in-Law When Charles arrived on the Starkville campus in the fall of 1962, he saw Gary frequently at the business school, Wesley meetings, and elsewhere on campus. Gary was an ideal role model for Charles and, shortly after Charles joined Phi Kappa Tau, Gary became his Alpha Chi Big Brother.
