Michaels, who has served in the role since April 2017, has accepted a position as President & CEO of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce in Tennessee. "I feel the Greater Fayetteville Chamber is in terrific shape, despite the effects of COVID on the business community and the economic challenges that we are still working through," said Michaels. "We have worked hard to make the Chamber a go-to resource and to provide relevant programming," she added. Taneshia Kerr, the Chamber's Membership Director, was named Interim CEO by the Board of Directors and will begin serving in that capacity October 19. "It was a logical choice," said Jerome Scott, chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors. "This way we ensure our programs and operations will continue seamlessly." A Search Committee has been formed to look for a permanent replacement. "We certainly hate to see Christine go," he said, "but we wish her the best. She has seen us through COVID coupled with an office relocation in the middle of it, as well as ensuring that there was no break in Chamber programming." Under Michaels' tenure, the Chamber implemented many new events and programs such as Virtual Speed Networking, the Public Safety Valor Awards, Bikes & BBQ, Martinis & Mistletoe, the "Doing Business with Fort Bragg" procurement series, and partnered on the Building Business Rally with the Public Works Commission. Most recently, the Chamber began a Financial IQ series to help business owners improve their bottom lines through basic financial processes – a program funded through the City of Fayetteville's COVID relief funding. "Our partnerships with the City, County, municipalities, higher ed and other local agencies is strong and we intend to keep them this way," said Scott. "Members and the community can rest assured that the Greater Fayetteville Chamber will be working just as hard for them as ever."
