John Rankin and Tom Mayhew stepped out of their rocking chairs long enough to get second with 8.65. Ronnie Humphries fished solo as well and was third with 7.80. Big bass was a 3.40 largemouth brought in by David O'Shields and Doug Sparrow. This week it is back to Lake Norman and they shouldn't have problems finding enough water to fish after this past weekend, as well as this week's rain. Moss Twenty three boats made it out last Thursday for the weekly bass tournament on Moss Lake. JR Garland and Ronnie Beason brought in 12.20 and picked up the win. They also had big bass of the evening with a 3.62 largemouth. Daniel Ruppe and John Bailey took second with 9.94. Jody Black and Jason Rhodes were a close third with 9.55. Chad Green and Jerry Bolton brought in 9.09 and were fourth and rounding out the top five was Arnold Ledford and Brent Shytle with 8.35. On Saturday Arnold and the Thursday crowd put together the annual benefit tournament on Moss. Seventeen boats fished the event where Jody and Black and Jason Rhodes grabbed the win with 19.36. Bryan Thrift and Steve Tolbert had 16.08 and were second. Reggie Guffey and Donnie Walker had 15.41 and settled in third, while Chet Beam and Nick McCracken brought in 14.28 to get fourth. James Osborne fished solo and was fifth with 11.22. Big bass was a 5.32 brought in by the team of Thrift and Tolbert. Arnold says a big thanks to all that came out and fished and or helped, and a huge thanks to Jordan Jackson for all the help. This time of year is especially GARY MILLER true of this. While turkey season is in progress, I am thinking about getting my gear ready for the river and am also making plans on doing the things now that will give me an opportunity at a big buck this fall. It is a constant circle of living, reacting, and planning. Again, it is living in the moment, reacting to whatever comes my way, and preparing for the future. Just like most of life is. What most of us do each day is go to work as planned, react to the unexpected circumstances that come our way whether from home or work, and plan for the days, weeks, and/or years ahead. And much of the time, these are done simultaneously without a hitch. We have programmed our lives to live in the present and for the future. And it is wise to continue to do this. It is those who only live in the present, who forfeit future success. What is worse are those who never understand that most of what we experience now, is really in preparation for that future – but not necessarily the future here on earth. For some reason most people think heaven will be one long float-trip; a place where its inhabitants will simply float around on a cloud all day long. How boring would that be? Or they think those in heaven will continually live on our knees giving thanks to God. This is not true as well. (Even though, I'm sure thankfulness and praise will be a big part)The truth is, heaven will be communities. It will be about living, working, playing and a host of other things that I can't even imagine. It will be about family and fellowship. And while fishing may be involved; there is no doubt the rules will be catch and release. Why do I share this information? So that you and I can understand why we are here on earth. I think I can sum it up very quickly. We are here first of all, so that we might respond to God's invitation to go to heaven. He wants everyone there. Secondly, if we are already Christians, we are here to use all that we are and all that we have in order that others may have this same opportunity to respond to that same invitation. (Remember, He wants everyone there) And last of all, lest we forget, we are here getting prepared for whatever it is that God will have us doing in heaven. That's why God still tests the faith of the 80 year old. As long as we are here, He is working on us. When we are ready for our position in heaven, He will take us from here to there, where we will be employed doing what He has really built us for. And they'll be no time for floating. gary@outdoortruths.org ~ www.outdoortruths.org Vintage Ford Tractor Parts & Service www.just8ns.com 2505 South Post Road Shelby, NC 28152 888-355-9937 704-482-9913 Derek Barkley TROUT TIP You don't have to use fly rods and match the hatch to catch trout. When trout get hungry, anyone can catch them on their favorite lightweight spinning or spincasting combo. Purist fly fishermen don't like to think about this, but trout also crave nightcrawlers, angle worms, red wigglers, wax worms, and even maggots. Minnows dead or alive work, as well as live crayfish and crayfish tails. They even go bonkers over leeches. The most popular bait for trout is probably Berkley®'s PowerBaits® and a variety of different types of salmon eggs. Human treats also catch trout. Try mini marshmallows, canned corn, peas, cheese, and even hot dog chunks. One of the biggest trout ever taken on Lake Taneycomo in southern Missouri was caught by a kid using a McDonald®'s French fry.
