Smith High School Class of 2020: Seniors, while so many other things have changed, the one thing that remains constant, is your unlimited potential and inherent greatness. Only the Class of 2020 could have handled and adapted to this worldwide crisis. In fact, your leadership throughout this crisis has even inspired me and taught me to refocus on what really matters and realize we are changing things. Throughout history, what has made humans the resilient and incredible entities on this planet is our ability to adapt and respond to the circumstances of our environment. And, in that regard, the Class of 2020 will always be remembered as being in the forefront of handling unprecedented circumstances with grace, composure, and tenacity. The key word that comes to mind when I think of the Class of 2020 is tenacity - the quality of being very determined. You exemplify the true meaning of tenacity with your perseverance, grit, backbone, and courage. Your tenacity didn't occur by happenstance, it was also due to the infinite positive role models who influenced your life – parents, grandparents, guardians, relatives, teachers, principals, school staff, etc. "Born of Need, Destined to Serve, and Striving to Excel" is what the E. E. Smith High School Golden Bull Family is all about. We have prepared you as Global Graduates with C.L.A.S.S. You are now College and Career ready as you have acquired the essential Leadership skills to lead change. You also understand the importance of being able to Adapt to an ever-changing world while utilizing Strategic thinking and never losing sight of being a Steward of learning. These are the lifelong qualities we have instilled into you, Class of 2020 as you will be able to utilize these skills whether attending college, joining the military, or going directly into the world of work, each of you has mapped out a plan to success. No one defines success for you, but you. Continue to be courageous and set new paths that have never been explored. And remember, when you face difficult times in life, know that challenges are not sent to destroy you, they're sent to promote, increase and strengthen you.
