It has truly been an honor to ser ve as your principal. Although the school
year did not end the way we anticipated, you must stay focused on your goals.
In life there are distractions, disruptions, and events that force us out of our
normal routines of the way we do things. One thing I know about all of you
is that you are resilient and you can adapt and overcome. So, please stay
focused while adjusting to this "temporar y new normal." Although this current
pandemic state is different, there are always blessings hidden in situations--
we just have to pause to see them.
Class of 2020 you have done a lot of amazing things which has made our
community ver y proud. I don't think you realize the impact you have made
on our elementar y and middle school students by mentoring them, sharing
your knowledge about what you are learning in high school, and why it is so
impor tant to do well in school. You have volunteered and donated to the food
bank, and assisted with and donated blood at the blood drives. You have
made me smile with your talents, gifts, and wittiness. You have also warmed
my hear t by saying hello or just stopping by to "check on me."
I hope you will be able to reflect on spending time with your friends and
family while reminiscing about the funny things that really made you laugh. I hope you keep in touch with
your friends and periodically check on them to make sure they are doing fine.
You are officially Douglas Byrd High School alumni! I wish you many blessings as you navigate through life.
Stay safe and make the best of your life.
