During this unprecedented time of adversity you have found it in yourselves to keep moving for ward despite the circumstances. Your class has arguably achieved more than any of our school's previous classes. You have amassed a record number of degrees, cer tificates, and diplomas from FTCC. Life is going to present successes and failures and you have already found that you can persevere and succeed through the toughest of times. You have also proven that you can face disappointment and failure and succeed. While finding yourself you have discovered that you are highly adaptive. You have been able to transition to online learning seamlessly. You have been receptive to changes that made you miss the traditional high school experience. As Socrates stated, " The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building on the new." Your successes prove that you are indeed prepared to tackle any challenges that you may encounter. You had no idea at the beginning of the school year that you would not only learn the content that your FTCC instructors would be teaching, but some of the most valuable life skills. You have learned to appreciate the here and now and to not take the small things in life for granted, as circumstances can rapidly change. You have learned we are all one. The power of what one person can do is by far outweighed by what we can do collectively. We have also learned that we are all social beings and we need to value relationships because time really does zoom right by. We will not forget to tell impor tant people thank you or I love you. Commencement is a beginning and you are beginning your path toward excellence. When describing how to achieve excellence I immediately think of the words of Ronnie Oldham, "Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible." No matter if your plans are taking you to the workforce, militar y, or college my hope is that you vigorously pursue excellence and you have the courage to chase your dreams.
