Special thanks to the Ventura County Chapter of the National Charity League, a multi-generational philanthropic organization of mothers and daughters who volunteer to promote human welfare. Mothers and daughters volunteered at our Garden Tour, Mother's Day Luncheon and Light Up a Life events; visited CareGivers patients; and decorated memorial rocks for our grief and bereavement events. 147 VOLUNTEERS HOSPICE PATIENT VISITS 1,395 UNDUPLICATED HOSPICE PATIENTS 166 SERVICE HOURS 4,862 Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer. We are indebted to the volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents supporting all aspects of Livingston's departments and programs — from our volunteer Board of Directors to administrative support to volunteer grief and bereavement counselors to event support — including the Farmers Market — and hospice volunteers. Without the thousands of hours of service from these amazing community-minded individuals, our work would not be possible. Each year, we have the honor to recognize an individual with the Roy Carlson Volunteer Recognition Award. This year we were pleased to honor hospice volunteer Dianne Arsenault Bernstein. Over the last decade Dianne has been part of the lives of 41 patients and their families. During her 565 visits she has helped care for precious loved ones of sons, daughters, husbands, wives, sisters and brothers. Her beautiful smile is her entré. Her caring spirit keeps her going back regardless of the challenges. Dianne seems to know instinctively what people need. It may be massaging someone's feet, learning to play the ancient game of "Go," or playing Frank Sinatra that brings them to a place of comfort. Dianne is a southern California native whose family roots are readily traced to Prince Edward Island, Canada. She received her Associates Degree in nursing in 1982 and subsequently specialized in the care of children affected by respiratory diseases. She met the love of her life, Bob, while vacationing in Santa Barbara, and after marrying, they lived in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Diego before settling in Ventura. After a career in nursing and devoting herself to raising her three sons, Dianne has been able to explore several interests including artistic expression through classes in oil painting. She enjoys being with her family, spending time in the outdoors, traveling, gardening, hiking, bicycling, cooking, and wine tasting. Her interest in hospice volunteer work at Livingston was born from an innate and authentic desire to help others through difficult times; she is natural giver, with a strong work ethic and the caring heart of a mother and nurse. With a positive attitude and nurturing smile, she is always ready to serve those in need, especially in her role as a hospice volunteer.
