Mark your calendars and plan to join the ABT on Saturday, March 7, as we host our annual Alabama Delta Chi Alumni Dinner. Beyond bringing generations of Brothers back together, we will recognize the achievements of Joe Face '79 and the late Bill Gullett Jr. '83, as our most recent Jefferson J. Coleman Award recipients. JOE FACE '79 LIFE OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS Edward Joseph "Joe" Face Jr. '79 has served as Commissioner of Financial Institutions for the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Financial Institutions (the Bureau) since 1997. e Bureau regulates and supervises over 15,000 state- chartered financial institutions and licensees controlling some $80 billion in assets. Joe has been with the Bureau since 1979 when he began as an examiner. During his career, Joe has worked in each of the Bureau's regulatory sections and has participated in on-site examinations and investigations involving both depository and non-depository financial institutions. He has also conducted investigations of various licensing applications, merger and acquisition applications, among others. Outside of his work with the Bureau, Joe has been celebrated for his leadership roles in national and local organizations. Below are only some of his many accomplishments: • Served two terms as president of the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators (AARMR), which he also helped establish in 1988. • In 1994, Joe served as president of the National Association of Consumer Credit Administrators (NACCA). He received the Distinguished Service Award in 2006. • Previous chairman of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors from 2006-2007. • Locally, served as president of the Commonwealth Managers Association. • Served as President - Richmond Chaper - University of Alabama Alumni Association. Aer graduating from UA, Joe earned his MBA at Central Michigan University. He continues to represent state regulators in different groups, committees and coalitions, including the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, the Federal Reserve Board's Cross-Sector Umbrella Regulatory Working Group. He's also served on the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group, and the "Operation Jump$tart Coalition" financial literacy effort. In his spare time, Joe enjoys spending time with his family (including two granddaughters), Alabama football, golf and working around his home. CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF BILL GULLETT JR. '83 William "Bill" Sanford Gullett Jr. '83 will be honored and remembered for his service to our Chapter. At our dinner, Glenn Stokes '83 will share Bill's story. Bill passed away on October 4, 2019, aer a five- month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born and raised in Florence, Ala. He received a bachelor's degree in history in 1983, later serving as National Vice President of e University of Alabama Alumni Association. Bill enjoyed a career in the insurance industry at J. Smith Lanier & Company, formerly Rogers, Parker & Associates, Inc. roughout his life, Bill was an active, dedicated member of his community. He was a Kairos Prison Ministry volunteer, Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Florence and a founding member of the Florence Education Foundation. Following in his father's footsteps, Bill represented District 4 for the Florence City School Board of Education for seven years with energy, keen interest and dedication. Bill was a longtime supporter of the Alabama Chapter and served on the House Corporation. He relished his time at Bama and remained an avid Crimson Tide fan. His generous spirit is missed by his family and Delta Chi Brothers. Bill's community involvement and recognition also include: • e Florence Education Foundation gave a grant in Bill's name to the Florence Middle School band, with the intent to make it an annually recurring grant in his memory. • e Florence Falcons football team dedicated their 2019 season to Bill by placing a large BG sticker on the crown of their helmets. • e Florence Falcons varsity basketball team played a game in the "Bradshaw Dome" in memory of Bill. Bill played an instrumental role as a school board member in getting the dome refurbished and ready for play. • Bill was a member of the Florence Main Street organization for over 10 years. e organization promotes the growth and development of downtown Florence. • Bill was a member of the Florence Tree Commission for several years.
