A t e University of Alabama, Cass Scripps '89 was a business student with a music problem. As social chairman and a band enthusiast, Cass honed his negotiating skills by booking bands and ensuring Delta Chi had the most band parties on campus. Delta Chi became a launching pad for Cass's long, successful career in the music and talent industry, a career permeated with Delta Chi musicians and connections. Always on the hunt for new music and artists, Cass attended shows for free as a DJ for WVUA, Bama's student radio station. rough his booking agency, Mustang Productions, and being partners with the talent buyer for Solomon's, Cass also booked bands for other fraternities and sororities at Alabama and surrounding universities. "I was even the tour manager for the Storm Orphans, the almost famous rock band from Tuscaloosa featuring singer Rusty LuQuire '85," he shared. Serving as B and A, Cass learned how to navigate the differences inherent in a large organization with different members, personalities and backgrounds. "You have to remember you can't try and focus on one group or one interest; you have to try and please as many people as you can, which means there is a certain amount of compromise. at was a big life lesson that helped me later on." Cass's career in the music and talent industry continued to flourish post-graduation. Aer many gigs in Tuscaloosa as talent buyer for College Station eatre, Ivory Tusk and e Booth, he moved to Atlanta and began working with another brother, Tracy Ritchey '85. Cass enjoyed a nearly 20-year career running his own Atlanta- based firm, Metro Talent Group. He eventually ended up in Nashville, where he lives and works today for United Talent Agency. ey are one of the largest talent agencies in the world, representing many of the world's most acclaimed figures in every current and emerging area of entertainment and media. Over the years, Cass has worked with talents such as Clint Black, Corey Smith, Reverie Lane, Edwin McCain and his first band, Hootie and the Blowfish, among others. Cass will never forget how Delta Chi helped him get his start in both his career and personal life. He met his wife, Allison, at a Dreams So Real show in Tuscaloosa, and their first date was to an Alabama football game. Twenty-five years later, they have two wonderful kids. Martha Grace is a Chi Omega at Samford University, and Bowen is a freshman at Arizona State. Cass feels lucky to have turned his passion for music into a career, and he's thankful for Delta Chi's support and connections.
