"I enjoyed my years in the ΔΔΔ house. I hope future generations treasure their memories of Theta Iota and make lasting friendships." – Chrystal Hantla Dlabal '66 "I believe in paying back, paying forward, and just stepping up. It's my turn to support my sisterhood." – Melissa "Missy" Trusdale Saylor '72 "I believe in supporting Theta Iota so that we may keep our house in good condition; thus the women who live there will be proud of their home." – Beth Wilson Bird '59 "When I moved into the house, it was in excellent condition as it was newly renovated. I want current and future members to have the opportunity to live in a house in good condition, and that is appealing." – Marilyn Spainhour Taylor '63 "Tri Delta means many things to me, a sense of belonging, lifelong friendships, and memories of a special time in my life. I Donate to Theta Iota Because… Delta Delta Delta 3 S itting comfortably in her chair in the house director suite, Sabine Karnowski converses easily as she revels in the busyness of her new full-time job: "So, here I am, walking in the door in a matter of weeks after the interview. I get to do everything I love now. It is not easy, and it has been literally been a 24/7 job so far, but I love challenges and connecting with people." After the sudden resignation of last year's house director, Marcine Crosby, who moved to Minnesota, Sabine (pronounced Sa-bean-ah) appeared almost miraculously at the outset of the search. Hidden, in a sense, but in close proximity, Sabine has lived in Manhattan since 1989, with her first outside employment being director of the Strecker Art Gallery. Her background, both before and after that work experience does, indeed, seem well suited to her current role. In the 1990s, Sabine received two degrees from Kansas State, both with honors. The first was a B.S. in clothing, textiles, and interior design, and the second was a master's specialized in facility management. During this time, she was a graduate assistant, providing facility management for residence halls and dining facilities. It was a hands-on assistantship where she followed up on work orders from students and staff. Her first job post-graduation was with Weary Davis Law firm, in Manhattan, where she prepared legal documents and financial accounting. She interacted with clients, maintaining confidentiality and exhibiting diplomacy while emphasizing accuracy. Throughout those jobs and schooling, Sabine operated her own business of rental property management, primarily for students. She constantly interacted with and responded to students' needs and concerns to provide safe, clean, affordable housing. She was accustomed to the hands-on maintenance of property, repair, and cleaning. While Sabine has little previous connection with sorority life, she draws a connection with INDEPENDENCE AND GROWTH New House Director Sabine Karnowski Brings a World of Experience to the Job Abby Quigley '18, Taylor Barnhart '19, Haley Hutton '18, Meg McConnell '19, Kate West '18, and Clara Veldhuizen '19 celebrate Bid Night with House Director Sabine Karnowski. Sabine matched the Grease theme as best as she could! (Continued on page 4)
