CHAPTER ETERNAL Luann Culver Cramer '50 entered Chapter Eternal on July 20 in Leawood, KS. She grew up in Kansas City, KS, and attended Wyandotte High School, where she was a member of the Owls. After a few years at KSU, she married Ted Maupin, who was a non-commissioned Air Force officer. That nomadic life suited her well because she always loved to travel as a child; her father was a conductor with the Union Pacific railroad. They later settled in Manhattan, KS, where Luann raised her four children and was active in local politics, the Manhattan Regional Airport, the Tri Delta house corporation, and the Kansas State University Foundation Board of Trustees. She also traveled throughout Europe and the United States and loved to cook, garden, play golf, and actively participate in any card game, especially bridge. She will be missed greatly. ALUMNAE NEWS After leaving Kansas, Maurita Fly Zurschmiede '51 raised a family, then attended the University of Washington and transferred to Seattle Pacific University, graduating in education with an earth science major. She spent many happy years teaching at East-Side Christian School. "One of the greatest days of my life was graduating magna cum laude from SPU with my son!" Maurita lives in Shoreline, WA, and remains active in after-school programs. Email: ritazursch@gmail.com The Golden Crescent 2 T he fall semester is nearly complete, and I am excited to tell you all about our accomplishments, events, and opportunities. Our VP and assistant VP of membership, Emery Braun '16 and Jace Stephenson '16, led us through an outstanding formal recruitment this August. We would like to thank the alumnae and parents for helping us prepare for the week during our Rush the Alums event on August 17, hosted by Alumnae Relations Chairman Anna Samuelson '18. Theta Iota received the top number of new members for first-year students and upperclassmen going through formal recruitment. We are ranked fourth in terms of size out of 13 chapters, with 42 outstanding women in the 2019 member class. PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS During the Tri Delta Celebration this summer, we won Top Fundraising Chapter and Chapter of the Year in the gold division. We earned this from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by raising more than $75,000 for the 2018- 19 school year; our philanthropy chairman, Christina Walker '18, accepted the award on our behalf. In September, Christina organized and planned a new philanthropy event called St. JudeWorld. We had carnival games, treats, and fun activities for the community to enjoy while supporting St. Jude; we raised over $9,000. In kind, they gave us two tickets to the Chainsmokers concert in Wichita, and Christina created a St. Jude fundraising raffle to win the tickets. In November, we hosted our annual Delta House of Pancakes and Sincerely Yours events. We are excited to see the new opportunities these successes bring to the children at St. Jude and to our chapter. CONTINUED ACADEMIC SUCCESS In the spring semester, 26 members achieved a 4.0 GPA; our cumulative GPA is a 3.46. Our academic chairman, Avery Aust '17, planned a celebratory dinner for all of our members receiving a GPA of 3.5 or above on September 15. FALL BONDING This fall, we held too many thrilling events to count! In early October, we hosted a Siblings Weekend filled with K-State football and zip lining. Over the weekend of October 16, we initiated our new member class into Delta Delta Delta. We had a great Dad's Weekend after that, spending time with our dads and families tailgating, watching football, and enjoying brunch. We had the pleasure of pairing with Pi Kappa Alpha for Homecoming week. On November 10, we held slating (selection of new officers) for next year. The following week we had our Founders Day celebration hosted by Continuing Education Chairman Dani McEwen '17. We would like to thank our alumnae, house corporation, families, and friends for their endless support and love of Theta Iota Chapter. We look forward to the many successes and accomplishments to come!
