THETA IOTA CHAPTER • KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Fall 2019 Crescent The Golden THETA IOTA GETS A HOME MAKEOVER Chapter House in Good Condi on a er Summer Maintenance H oliday greetings from your Theta Iota House Corporation. This year has been a roller coaster of challenges and progress. Each experience has strengthened the collegians and alumnae alike as we work to be a premier Tri Delta chapter. Over the summer, we completed basement maintenance in response to the water valve failure and resulting damage. Additional summer updates included a newly decorated rec/chapter room, TV room, study room, and Standards meeting room, as well as an updated hallway, bedroom suites, and several storage areas. New carpet was also installed throughout the Chapter House to coordinate with the patterns in the basement. For the main floor, we accepted the generous offer of Stephanie Berland Walker '83, Architectural Engineering, who spent many hours at the Chapter House refreshing the décor in the entryway, living room, and library. Her background in design led her to share her talent, time, and resources with Theta Iota in a beautiful way. She also contributed significantly to the replacement of holiday decorations that were lost due to remediation. They will adorn the main-floor areas commencing at the Pine Party in November. Finally, we increased overall house security over the summer with the installation of electronic exterior door locks and 12 exterior security cameras. A couple of unexpected low points were a roof leak over the pantry that necessitated significant repair two weeks before the collegians returned for recruitment in August. Additional water damage required some ceiling and wall repair in the basement. Outdoors, some landscape work was necessary to redirect drainage from the Chapter House's foundation. The maintenance projects involved with a nearly 90-year-old house will continue. High humidity levels in Kansas over the past several summers have caused issues for many of the old limestone buildings in Manhattan. Constant updating and remediation are the reality that we have come to expect. Going forward, we ask for your continued support as we manage our beloved house and home on behalf of our youngest sisters. All these improvements, along with the hiring of our new house director (read more on page 3) and professional food service, have generated positive energy and appreciation for what has been accomplished. Our hope is that such cooperative efforts will further enhance the Tri Delta presence at Kansas State. Loyally, Laura Anderson Pestinger '76 President, Theta Iota House Corporation Thank you to Theta Iota Parents Club for your contributions toward new patio chairs and security cameras, the new refrigerator in Ivy's Nook, and new parking lot striping and numbering.
