BETA BEAT Sigma Alpha Epsilon s University of montana Fall 2019 THE In this issue: 1960s Last Best Reunion - p.2 Thank You, Montana Beta Brothers - p.3 Alumni Update - p.3-4 I n case you missed it, in September we sent you a letter explaining the tough decision that was made to keep the chapter house closed this school year. Here is a recap of that letter: Due to the high expected vacancy rate, Montana Beta Chapter will not be in residence at 1120 Gerald for the 2019-20 school year. After months of conversations with chapter members, parents, and ΣAE Financial and Housing Corporation, the National Fraternity body that has managed 1120 Gerald for the last several years, Sigma Alpha Building Corp., the legal entity that owns the chapter house, reluctantly decided that it would be too financially burdensome for the active chapter to occupy 1120 Gerald at this time. The current house capacity is 23-24 members and only 12 members had signed leases by mid-summer. At full capacity, 1120 Gerald represents a cost competitive housing option for our brothers. Dividing the total costs of the building and food program by only 12 members would have been double the cost of living elsewhere. Montana Beta Chapter remains in good standing with the University of Montana and with the National Fraternity. The chapter is still active on campus despite not living in the chapter house and will continue to hold chapter meetings and activities. We look forward to having the active chapter again take up residency at 1120 Gerald as soon as enough brothers are committed to making 1120 Gerald their friendly, safe, healthy, and affordable collegiate home. In the meantime, we will keep the property supervised, secure, and will be working on some minor repair and maintenance items so it can be in the best shape for the chapter's ultimate return. Your contributions to help with ongoing maintenance at 1120 Gerald will go far in ensuring our chapter house remains in good shape and will be ready for active members upon their return. The support from alumni keeps our brotherhood strong and successful.
