THE BETA BEAT PAGE 2 o n August 16-17, 60-plus ΣAEs from the '60s, along with their wives and our little sisters, met in Big Fork, Mont., for what we billed as the Last Best Reunion. We aren't sure it's the last, but it was certainly enjoyed by all. On Friday night we met at the beautiful home of Ted Rieke '65 on the Flathead River, just above Flathead Lake. Refreshments and a delicious catered meal were enjoyed, along with lots of laughs and memories of great times at 1120 Gerald. Saturday afternoon we gathered at the Marina Cay for more food and conversation. The highlight of the afternoon was the not-so-silent auction, which benefited the Marty Mikelson Zeal Award Scholarship Fund. The not-so- silent part of the auction was the bidding on the beautiful quilt made by Linda Johnson and Gretchen Galen, wives of Steve Johnson '63 and John Galen '83, in honor of Steve, who passed away last year. The quilt is made up of T-shirts of Griz, ΣAE, and various events relative to the University of Montana, a one-of- a-kind masterpiece. The bidding was heated, starting at $500 and eventually won by Bill Bouchee '63 and his wife, Phyllis, for $1,500. After the bidding, we asked if anyone would like to donate to the scholarship fund and eventually we ended up with over $6,000 for the fund, a true tribute to Marty and Steve. We cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity, and of course, we are still accepting donations. Just make the checks out to the Sigma Alpha Building Corp. and put "Marty Fund" on the memo line.
