Early voting takes place at the Cumberland County Board of Elections, 227 Fountainhead Lane, Suite 101, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Citizens who want to take advantage of early voting, but are not registered to vote, may do same-day registration during One-Stop early voting if they provide acceptable documentation. e registrant needs to present or show a document that lists current name and address in Cumberland County. A complete list of acceptable documentation can be viewed at electionready.net. e polls will open on Election Day, Nov. 5, at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. Once the polls close at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, the public is invited to view the Cumberland County general election results in the first-floor conference room at the Department of Social Services, 1225 Ramsey St. Regular hours at the Board of Elections are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Board of Elections, go to electionready. net or call 910-678-7733. e Cumberland County Public Health Department is offering flu vaccinations to children and adults at the Immunizations Clinic at 1235 Ramsey St. Uninsured children six months to 18 years old may receive the vaccination for free. For other patients, the cost will depend on the type of flu vaccine received. e Immunizations Clinic is open Monday through ursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., every second and fourth Tuesday until 7 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome except for Friday afternoon service. Patients arriving late in the day should report to the Immunizations Clinic at least 30 minutes before closing time to allow time for registration. Flu Shots Available at Public Health T own of Spring Lake and Cumberland County officials turned over dirt Oct. 14 at the site where a new Spring Lake Fire Department #11 will be constructed at 2355 Lillington Highway. Once constructed, the new building will be the second station for the Spring Lake Fire Department. e new station is expected to cut response times in half and lower insurance premiums for Cumberland County residents within five miles of the station, according to fire officials. e 7,487-square-foot facility will be built on 1.58 acres and will serve parts of Spring Lake, as well as the Manchester Fire District in the unincorporated areas of Cumberland County. "is has been a long time coming," said Spring Lake Fire Chief Jason Williams. "It really means a lot for us to have our own station here, which is really going to help with this community." In addition to tax revenues from the Manchester Fire District, the station also received a $75,000 grant from the County for construction. Spring Lake Holds Fire Station Groundbreaking T he Cumberland County Board of Commissioners and Fayetteville Technical Community College Trustees broke ground on Oct. 21 for a new state-of- the-art regional fire and rescue training center in the Cumberland County Industrial Park. e Fayetteville Technical Community College Cumberland County Fire and Rescue Training Center will be constructed on 30 acres of property near the Sheriff's Training Center and Animal Control Shelter. e ceremony was held at the intersection of Corporation Drive and Tom Starling Road. e center will support FTCC's Fire Protection Technology public service program of study, which provides educational training in emergency management, fire technology and fire training. e facility will enable FTCC to add classes not currently offered including fire investigation/arson certification, thermal imaging, vehicle extrication, high-angle rescue, and other types of fire and rescue training. In addition to classrooms, the Center will provide live fire buildings, apparatus bays, technical rescue areas, specialized training areas, and additional training facilities for member departments of the Cumberland County Fire Chiefs' Association and other emergency responders. "is is a great day for Cumberland County and Fayetteville Technical Community College, as well as the fire departments and emergency responders who serve and protect our residents. In fact, this is turning into a great year for our emergency and fire services as Cumberland County moves forward with several projects and initiatives," said Commissioner Jeannette Council, chair of the Board of Commissioners.
