PROVIDING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION Kim Harris Hurst '77 on Joining the Alpha Omicron Campaign A s a small-town freshman coming to Stillwater, Kim Harris Hurst '77 knew nothing about Greek life. "My roommate's sister was an ADPi, and I just went through recruitment because my roommate did," she admitted. "That being said, it changed my life! ADPi had a huge impact on my confidence and, ultimately, my career and personal success." When asked to participate in the campaign for a new Chapter house, Kim leapt at the chance to give back to Alpha Omicron. ADPI BUILDS STRONG WOMEN Kim works as senior director of Natural Gas Liquids for Intercontinental Exchange, where she manages the market for their online energy trading platform. She started in the energy industry with Phillips Petroleum in 1990, which she attributes to being "in the right place at the right time." "I also think that ADPi brought out and polished the woman I am today," she shared. "I learned how to get along with different types of people, which was a big help in my business success. You don't have to like everyone, but you have to get along with everyone; nice matters." ALPHA OMICRON MEMORIES As an undergraduate, Kim served on the executive board as Scholarship Chairman and has wonderful memories of spending time with her sisters. On one winter night, they pushed one of the sister's cars out of a snow-packed parking space to go for ice cream. "We also had a group called the 'after lunch bunch'—we scheduled our classes around two hours of daily soap operas in the TV room. I'm sure our parents would have been so proud!" Kim recalls Linda Naylor Morgan '74, Stacy Noel '76, Abby Williams Riggins '75, and Arlene Hamm Manthey '75 as excellent role models from her time in the house. Her daughters, Annie Hurst Koehn '08 and Morgan Hurst '13, joined Alpha Omicron as well, making both the ADPi sisterhood and her campaign participation even more meaningful. PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE While staying involved with the Chapter has been tough living in Houston, Kim was honored to join the campaign. "Having had daughters in the house recently, I knew it was time for a change, as much as we loved the old structure. We will always have our memories of the old house, but we can look forward to providing for the next generation. I believe in the perpetuation of Greek life, and in particular Alpha Delta Pi, having a new Chapter house is critical to accomplishing our goals." Kim encourages sisters to focus on the gift of their sisterhood and consider giving back so others can experience Alpha Omicron too. She also noted that at OSU, it's the fraternities driving the new building progress, largely because men have been the ones in charge of the donating process. "It's time to change that. I would encourage my sisters to step up and give; even the smallest donation helps because it adds up!" Kim lives with her sweet bernedoodle, Holly, and enjoys OSU football and tailgating, traveling, cooking, and wine collecting. You can connect with her about the campaign at kimberlyann0805@gmail.com. "We will always have our memories of the old house, but we can look forward to providing for the next generation."
