It helps to have what you need to keep your bike in good condition on hand. A few weeks back, I w rote about riding to Sturgis, some of t he preparations I did beforehand and some ideas to help make your future rides more comfortable and enjoyable. Today, let us talk about after t he ride. For Sturgis, we rode over 4,500 miles. When I returned, I unpacked and let her sit for a few days. My bike, named Traveler, was pretty dirty. A few days later, I washed her off and then brought her into the garage and broke out my cleaning supplies and my tool kit. I usually start from t he top to bottom. I remove t he w indshield and set it aside. Then I apply Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish around t he bike to give a sharp- look ing polish and clean. I have used t his product for years. More recent ly, I have bought it by t he case on A mazon. It does a beauti- ful job of cleaning my bike, plus it makes me touch ever y square inch of t he bike. As I go over ever y inch of Traveler, I take my tools and ensure t hat ever y nut and bolt is tight. During your travels, somet hing w ill inev itably start to come loose. This litt le preventive maintenance w ill save you a lot of time and money dow n t he road if somet hing pops off. As I use my bike's tool k it, I am also check ing to make sure t hat I have ever y tool I need for it. This trip, I discovered I was missing a #4 metric A llen w rench. Hav ing a couple of bikes, I also put colored tape around each of my tools to make sure t hat I have t he right tool for t he right bike. I use w indow cleaner on t he w indshield and replace it on t he bike. Last ly, I take t he GPS off and dow nload my route and any extra way points I saved and clear up my GPS's memor y.
