The Iowa Xi Chapter is thriving after your continued financial support of the recent renovation efforts and chapter improvement projects, and the alumni base is as strong as ever. As families grow and careers change, the board recognizes a need to create op- portunites for other alumni to get involved. The board convenes monthly and is more than happy to bring others in. Fraternally, Clayton Short '15 Alumni Corporate Board Alumni Relations Chairman ccshort@alumni.iastate.edu (651) 440-4059 Giving and Gratitude Nate Kemmer '03 Lives Through Phi Kappa Theta Motto F rom his first days as an undergraduate at Iowa State, Phi Kap- pa Theta's motto of "Give, expecting nothing thereof" has stuck with Nate Kemmer '03. "I have strived to live up to that every day of my life and no matter how hard things got sometimes, everything always works out for the best," Nate said. "I firmly believe that God helps those that help others and I could provide many examples in my life to prove that." Nate's giving mindset is one that is shared by his co-workers at CFI Tire Service. While Nate expects nothing in return from his customers, he understands that there are high expectations of him and his co-workers. "I am responsible for the functionality of our data and communica- tion systems," Nate said. "We have over 700 devices that I manage now—phones, printers, computers servers, etc. I have a staff of five that helps accomplish that now, though, so I do a lot more managing than doing." Although Nate hasn't needed any motivation to give his best effort with his job and all other aspects of life, he never backs down from a challenge. "I initially chose chemical engineering as a major because I had a few teachers in high school that said I wouldn't make it past a year," Nate said. "I love chemistry, building things, and proving people wrong, so it seemed like the right choice." Another team that Nate has thoroughly enjoyed working with in recent years is Iowa Xi's corporate board. Nate feels blessed to be in a position to help the chapter and also be able to stay in touch with fellow Iowa Xi alumni. "Serving on the board has been a great time," Nate said. "I was given the opportunity to reconnect with brothers I hadn't seen in years and meet many new ones. I love helping out and look forward to what we will accomplish in the future." Nate served on the building committee that led to the remodel of the chapter house four years ago. He has also enjoyed organizing the alumni golf outings and Homecoming. Building bonds with his brothers is something that Nate has always cherished, and something that he looks forward to doing for years to come. Nate's main point of advice to the undergraduates and recent graduates is to build relationships with Iowa Xi alumni. "Network, Network, NETWORK," Nate said. "The greatest asset they have is this amazing network of brothers that span almost every job field and profession ready to impart as much knowledge and wisdom as they are willing to absorb. Reach out, ask questions and get involved." Along with giving back to Phi Kappa Theta, Nate enjoys golfing, going to the shooting range, reload- ing ammunition, woodworking, and spending time with his wife, Sarah.
