Therefore, the Neal Senior Center will not be distributing food on a quarterly basis, at least for now. We do offer an Emergency Food Pantry, which is avail- able for seniors 55 and over who live in Cleveland County. Seniors may utilize the pantry once a month (every 30 days). The service is available Monday thru Thursday, 8:30 – 4:30 and Fridays, 8:30 – 12:30. We accept non-perishable food items that are in-date and sealed, and gift cards or money for purchase of food items. Of course, this spe- cial day is for all ages. Many like to send cards, candy, flowers and stuffed toys to that special person in their life and some prefer to be with family and friends. The Neal Senior Center will be hosting two events to celebrate Valentine's Day. An informal drop-in party will be held on the big day, February 14, at 10AM. There will be plenty of snacks and a chance to visit with other patrons of the center. You can even bring your "Special Valentine" to the party! If you don't have a "special Valentine", this may the very place you will find him or her! On Valentine's Night, the center will be hosting a "Special Valentine Evening Dance", which be held from 6PM-9PM. Tickets will be sold at a special price of $6 each and refreshments will be served. Please be sure to pick up your tickets in person at the Neal Senior Center by Tuesday, February 12. For further information, please contact the Neal Senior Center at 704/482-3488. February 14 10 AM Dine Do you enjoy good food and great fellowship? Would you like to meet some new friends? If so, you are invited to join the Neal Senior Center Dine Around Club for seniors age 50 and better. During the months of January-September, the Dine Around Club meets at an area restaurant on the 4th Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Join us on Thursday, January 24, 2019 as we dine at Don Ramon's, located at 203 E. Marion St., Shelby. Again, we will meet at 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in participating, please call the Neal Senior Center's Front Desk at 704-482-3488 to reserve seating by or before Tuesday, January 22, 2019. In addition, a 2019 Dine Around Club Restaurant Schedule is available at the Front Desk for your convenience. Do you enjoy playing pool, bowling, or pickleball? How about drawing, painting, or singing? Are you into swimming, archery or badminton? What about quilting, pottery or writing? If these types of activities appeal to you, then make it work for you! Become a part of the 2019 Cleveland County Senior Games! The Cleveland County Senior Games are for adults age 50 or better and is a holistic approach to keeping the body, mind and spirit fit while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators and volunteers. In the Senior Games, the activities include pickleball, cornhole, shuffleboard, swimming, bowling and many other activities to select. The SilverArts highlights the talents related to art, handicrafts, photography and written works, such as poetry and essays. It also includes performing arts, including singing, dance and acting. The 2019 Senior Games will be held April 1-5, 2019 and the SilverArts will be held April 22-25, 2019. There are two kick-off events. The first is Wednesday, January 30 at 2PM at the Neal Senior Center. The second one will be Friday, February 1 at 10AM at the Patrick Senior Center in Kings Mountain. Each kick-off is open to anyone who has an interest in the Senior Games or the SilverArts, whether you are a new or returning participant. You will hear about the events, including the registration procedure, any upcoming changes, the various activities offered and much more. You will also be able to pick up a registration packet for either the Senior Games of the SilverArts, which will contain all the needed paperwork and information for the event. After the kick-off events, both reg- istration packets may be obtained from the front desk at either the Neal Senior Center or the Patrick Senior Center. For addition- al information on these events, please call Daniel Dedmon at the COA/Neal Senior Center at 704/481-7387. In 2018, the number of participants in the Senior Games/Silver Arts increased over the 2017 games.
