M 19, 2010 My Garden Angels By Joanne Winer Many people who have been instrumental in show- ing their support for Celia’s Rainbow Gardens work behind the scenes in different ways. They don’t of- ten get the credit they deserve for all their help. I would like to thank everyone who has sent me or brought me some of their favorite recipes for the cookbook I am working on to help raise money to further the work in the Gardens. I have received many really great recipes so far, but am hoping that some of you great cooks out there will give me some more of your favorite reci- pes before July 1st so that they will be included in D M Ehrenberg Elementary 8th Grade Class of 2010 Top Row: Left to right: Shane (Parker) Mor- ris, Robert (Bobby) Grimes, Rafael Adame Jr., Bryan Garcia, Jonathan Gonzalez, Eddie Vasquez, and Michael Hatfi eld Bottom Row: Left to right: Estevan Lopez, Sadie Thompson, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cossio, Itzel Santos, Michael Madera, and Ryan Zi- gler. I will be working on the book over the summer, and hope to have it printed and ready for sale before the winter season. Send as many as you like in any category. Just be sure to include your name and where you are from, a list of ingredients, and instructions on preparation. Any anecdotes about your recipe will also be great. Thanks to everyone who has sent or brought in their recipes already, and her’s hoping that more will come in before the deadline so I can get started! Flag Retirement ceremony June 12 QUARTZSITE - There will be a flag re- tirement ceremony held on June 12 at 7pm at the Town Park pavilion on Plymouth Rd., Quartzsite. The event, the second annual Flag Retirement Ceremony is sponsored by Operation Hero Comfort. The Cub Scout Troop 116 will be participating and doing the ceremony. Protocol requires that any American, Military Service or State Flag should not be fl own if it is tattered or dam- aged. It should be burned in a spe- cial ceremony, and the ashes buried once the grommets are taken out of the ashes. Operation Hero Comfort held their fi rst ceremony last year, where almost 500 fl ags were retired and burned. The grommets that were kept were sent over to the troop units adopted by Operation Hero Comfort. They are considered good luck charms to the troops who carry them. This year, the ceremony will take place in the evening, since it was so hot last year in the afternoon. After the brief ceremony, there will be refresh- ments served at the pavilion. Anyone who has a fl ag that needs to be retired can drop it off at the Town Hall, Fire Station, Reader’s Oasis Bookstore, La Casas de Quartzsite offi ce, or Quartz- site Business Chamber of Commerce. You can also bring your fl ag to the cer- emony if you wish. Everyone is invited to come out and participate in the ceremony to honor the fl ag and our veterans.
