University of Kansas page 3 SLEDDING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND As a flurry of snow hit Lawrence on February 20, KU decided to cancel school, but that didn't cancel fun! Nearly 30 active and new members traveled to the infamous Hill to sled, throw snowballs, and enjoy the winter wonderland. Afterward, we treated the chapter to hot bowls of soup at the Shelter. RIGHT UP THEIR ALLEY On March 8, the chapter spent the night hitting the lanes Big Lebowski style and nearly 67 members attended. Brotherhood Chairman Tyler Garland '21 passed around question prompts for a bonding activity. The Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence was a fantastic venue and we'll certainly go back next year. EXPANDING THE DELT FAMILY On March 10, the chapter held our Big/Little reveal. New members and active members are matched and prepared for the ceremony. After a formal speech from the chapter president, the Bigs are revealed to their Littles. This event always brings seniors and alumni to the Shelter to see their extended families grow. These pairings become great mentorships, and help to unite the chapter between pledge classes and between active and new members. PITCHING A PERFECT GAME What better way to start the new school year and get the new members involved within the chapter than with a pledge class softball tournament on August 18? During this first weekend after members moved into the Shelter but before classes begin on the following Monday, we spent the Saturday on the baseball diamond. At Lyons Park in northern Lawrence, we had our seniors (Sigma and Tau pledge classes) play against the junior and most recent spring semester pledge classes (Upsilon and Chi classes), while the sophomores (Phi class) faced off with the new member pledge class (Psi class). This event not only helped Psi class get to know members within their own pledge class, but also all of the other members within the chapter in a fun yet competitive environment. The team-building tournament ended with Phi class playing the seniors in the championship game in what was a great three- hour introduction to the semester. IGNITING THE BOND With a few projects persisting unfinished from the summer, we invited dads on September 22 in the area to come up and help their sons work. On top of building a fire pit in the backyard, the father-son combos worked a variety of other projects and had a fantastic work day. Not only did the event bring brothers closer to their fathers, it also provided brothers the opportunity to meet other families. Afterward, everyone gathered inside for food and college football as one big happy family. Using the newly built fire pit, we spent a chilly October night gathered around the fire, cooking s'mores and hotdogs, and chatting about life. Reed Winkley '20 had a list of brotherhood building cards with him to prompt the late-night conversation.
