Arizona, is one car-length ahead of us: Alphabet's Waymo cars (Chrysler Pacifica mini- vans) will use "sensors to identify po- lice or emergency vehicles by detecting their appearance, their sirens and their emergency lights," the company's "Emergency Response Guide" ex- plains. "e Waymo vehicle is designed to pull over and stop when it finds a safe place to do so." Next, the car will unlock its doors and roll down its windows, allowing the police officer to communicate with a remote support team. e company will even send a human representative to the scene if necessary. A homeowner in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, received an unsettling phone call from a neighbor on Oct. 16, saying there were two strangers in her house. e door had been left unlocked so a neighbor could walk the dog, CTVNews reported, and police ex- pected to find that the home had been "cleaned out," said Nova Scotia Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesper- son Cpl. Dal Hutchinson. Instead, the two women inside the house had cleaned UP – they were employees of a cleaning company and had gone to the wrong address. ey left without realizing their mistake. Hutchinson praised the neighbor for being so observant and noted the silver lining: e house was cleaned for free. [CTVNews.ca, 10/16/2018] Crime report Two employees of a waste disposal company in Germany have been con- victed of pinching more than 100 portable toilets and selling them to a company in the Netherlands. e As- sociated Press reported on Nov. 6 that the toilets, worth almost $80,000, dis- appeared over a period of months. e Duesseldorf district court sentenced a 40-year-old man to a 10-month sus- pended sentence and a 28-year-old to six months. Question: (Spoilers Ahead) So all the hype around Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) leaving the show was just in hopes we'd get worked up about a series of "Walking Dead" movies? Do you feel they copped out with this approach? – Ronald M Matt Roush: I wouldn't call it a cop- out as much as a sell-out. Given the buildup, any death scenario that didn't involve taking Negan down with him (which would be satisfying) would seem anticlimactic, and his preposterous long ride down memory lane on the most patient white horse ever – until it wasn't – was a chore to behold. If the intent was to get our at- tention, AMC and the show succeeded. Beyond that, expanding the "Walking Dead" universe into a series of Rick Grimes movies has more than a whiff of desperation, and could diminish the franchise as well as further hobble the series he leaves behind. Maybe the world that Rick has been transported to will breathe some life back into the Dead empire. e three episodes lead- ing to the midseason finale should help determine whether a post- Rick "Walking Dead" is still worth the ef- fort. I was about to add how much I'll miss Maggie (Lauren Cohan) when her time comes, but watching her fall for Negan's transparent head games – she now won't kill him because he begged her to? (sheesh) – sort of softens that blow as well. by Damian Holbrook Cheers to "Titans" for ruling the DC Universe. Sorry, Batman, but the streaming platform's first original series, centered on ex-sidekick Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) and his band of severely broken heroes, is the kind of brutal, no-holds-barred su- perhero comic book adaptation that fans didn't even know they needed or deserved. Jeers to "House of Cards'" Claire for being an enemy of the press. In the series finale, Robin Wright's corrupt President Hale bashed a journalist's damning story about her as being fake news because it broke online and not even in print. That's like say- ing Netflix isn't TV because it's not on TV!
