Cumberland County DSS works with partner agencies and organizations to help find permanent homes for children ages 0 through 21. Fifty-three children were adopted through Cumberland County DSS in 2017 and the agency is constantly looking to increase that number. "We are seeking foster and adoptive parents that are willing to partner with our agency to provide a safe, stable, nurturing, and flexible home for our foster children," said Assistant Director of Children's Services Sandy Conner. "e ability to empathize and understand our diverse population of children is desired. We strive to offer foster and adoptive families for our children that will help them persevere despite the challenges that they have faced." To become a foster parent, a person must be: • At least 21 years of age • A Cumberland County resident • Financially stable and have sufficient room in their home Information sessions about adopting and fostering are held the third ursday of each month at noon and 6:30 p.m. in the DSS first-floor conference rooms. e DSS building is located at 1225 Ramsey St. Visitors should use the Hillsboro Street entrance, where the conference rooms are located.
