Some locals, though, can get frustrated as our quiet little com- munity begins its annual change of demographics. Check out the posi- tive letter to the editor on page 4 which was written in response to a frustrated local on social media. We are creatures of habit. Routines become automatic, but change jolts us into consciousness, sometimes in uncomfortable ways. "We don't re- sist change because we're neurotic or cowards," says psychologist Har- riet Lerner, author of "The Dance of Anger." We like certainty, because it makes us feel safe and secure. But then again, we get excited to see our friends return from their vacations. We look forward to the opening of our seasonal businesses and the deals our vendors bring. Some of us are anticipating the fi rst jams to begin, when Bingo is start- ing, or when all the activities start at the QIA. Also, what new specials are the seasonal restaurants offering? Welcoming our friends back home can be like returning to school after summer vacation. Getting excited about hearing our friends' summer travels, what changes are happening in town for the season, new events happening, etc. can really get us geared up for the upcoming changes to our little community. Keep smil- ing and enjoy the journey!
