T he Cumberland County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved renaming the Gray's Creek Recreation Center in memory of John Dove "J.D." Pone at their Aug. 20 meeting. Pone, who passed away in 2016, was deputy chief of the Gray's Creek Fire Department and served as chaplain for the Cumberland County Fire Chief 's Association. Pone also served on the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Family members who attended the board meeting, pictured, are wife Mary Pone, son John D. Pone Jr., daughter Dachia Pone-Davis, brothers Ed Pone, James Pone and Gerald Pone, and sister Cornelia Forte.
