Business owners don't often have the time to spend away from their companies monitoring what's happening with legislation or developments which might impact them. That's why they turn to the Greater Fayetteville Chamber for that information. The Chamber's staff serve on various local boards, commissions, and advisory groups and works in collaboration with many others to ensure business- friendly decisions are made at the state, local, and even federal level. We have a seat on the Cumberland County Workforce Development Board to encourage better communication of training and employment programs businesses can take advantage of. We hold a seat on the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) review committee which will meet over the next year to make improvements to the code which governs development in our city. We serve on the City of Fayetteville's Urban Design and Parking committees, helping choose consultants who will provide the best plans for our City's growth. And we're part of a collaborative marketing team working on how the major agencies representing the city and county can best brand our area and highlight our potential. The Chamber is also part of the City's Baseball Marketing Committee which works to disseminate updates on the stadium construction, and which secured the Big South's tournament in coming years. In addition to our Baseball4Business Committee that reviews best practices in cities with downtown ball parks, the Chamber launched FayettevilleonDeck.com last year. This web portal showcases opportunities relating to the stadium, the Fayetteville Astros team, Prince Charles redevelopment and other downtown bids and updates. In September we will bring together the Mayors of Fayetteville and Hope Mills, the County Board of Commissioners, Fort Bragg's Garrison Commander and the President of the Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Develpment Coorporation, to update us on the State of the Community. And for those wanting to meet those running for office, we'll have a Meet the Candidates function in late September. This November, through our Military Affairs Council, we will host a military spouse's conference to acquaint some 300 spouses to all that Fayetteville/Cumberland County has to offer. To tap into all the Chamber is involved in, visit www.faybiz.com or contact us at 910-483-8133. LETTER FROM THE CEO
