3 Phi Sigma Kappa Frank Micheletti '63 (Continued from page 1) Delta Triton experience should be a big help to any young man to grow up with a balanced per- spective on life and to be a positive contributor to society," he said. "The new house—coupled with the outstanding location—will be a big at- traction for new members." Frank has kept in touch with several of his Delta Triton brothers, some for over 55 years, includ- ing Gene "Beetle" Bailey '64 in North Carolina, Paul Smeller '64, and Phillip Scaramozzino '63 before he entered Chapter Eternal. Frank is reminded daily of the help he received from a brother during his junior year at the Delta Triton Chapter. "The rule at Phi Sig was that if you had a girlfriend back home, you did not have to attend the parties. Otherwise, if you did not attend, you faced a significant fine. I had broken up with my girlfriend in the fall of my junior year and I needed a date for the Christmas party or face a fine," Frank recalled. So he turned to Larry Severin '62 for help. "Larry prevailed upon his girlfriend, Nancy Cameron, to find me a date so I could avoid the fine," Frank remem- bers. "Nancy convinced her roommate, Sandy, to be my date, on the promise that she'd never have to see me again." As fate would have it, the two hit it off and they ended up getting married a week after graduation in 1963. Sandy and Frank will be celebrating their 55th wedding anniver- sary this year. Following their wedding, the newlyweds head- ed out for New Brunswick, N.J., in Frank's '56 Chevy. From 1963 to 1972 he worked for RCA Laboratories in Princeton, N.J. While working, Frank attended Princeton University and earned his master's degree in 1965 and his doctorate in electrical engineering in 1968. Sandy attended Douglas College at Rutgers to finish her bach- elor's degree and then attended Rutgers to earn her master's degree in math. Sandy was a high school math teacher for 38 years. From 1972 to 1983, Frank worked for Rockwell International in Anaheim, Calif. The couple then moved to Newport Beach, Calif., where Frank worked for Rockwell Semiconductor Products until his retirement in 2000. Frank continued as a full- time consultant for four years. "The period in Newport Beach was the highlight of my career," Frank admits. "During this period, I was director of engineering and oversaw 350 engineers and technicians in my department." After retiring, Frank has continued to be involved in his community. He has served as chairman of the La Purisima Fish Fry. This event is held dur- ing Lent each year and has raised $361,000 dur- ing in the past 14 years. He has also served as the chairman of the Knights of Columbus charity golf tournament since 2010, which raises about $17,000 per year for Habitat for Humanity for Veterans, National Alliance for Mental Illness, Feeding the Homeless, and several youth and parish projects. Frank and Sandy live in North Tustin, Calif., and they have one son, Tony, who is also an elec- trical engineer. Tony and his wife, Mindy, have two lovely daughters, Avery (6) and Isla (2), who Frank and Sandy get to babysit frequently. You can connect with Frank at fsmichel1963@ yahoo.com. Delta triton Closes out a suCCessful Year Anticipation Builds as Construction Continues T his has been a year of change and improvement for the Delta Triton Chapter. Our chapter has grown significantly over this past year, with our most recent associate class bringing in 15 out- standing new members. Several brothers have won awards for their academics and our chapter GPA has improved from last semester. This year we raised more money for Special Olympics than ever before and coordinated with other houses to take part in their philanthropy events. Our brothers continue to strive for academic excellence. We have 10 brothers on the dean's list from the fall 2017 semester and 14 brothers have received semester honors. Various university awards have also been awarded to brothers, including the Computer Science Undergraduate TA Award (Case Wright '20), the FEF Cast Metal Academic Achievement Scholarship (James Russell '19), and Distinguish Senior in Communication (Chuande Ye '18). Besides holding regular study tables twice a week, we also started a new academic mentor initiative to help improve academic performance of the house. For the fall 2017 semester, our chapter term GPA was 2.91 and our chapter is ranked 66th versus other Greek housing at Purdue. Compared to the spring 2017 semester, we have increased our GPA from 2.85 to 2.91 and moved our rank up 13 levels from 79th to 66th. "As scholarship chair, I am very confident that our chapter will continue to improve our academic performance and achieve academic excellence," Chuande Ye '18 said. (Continued on page 4)
