In Spring '17, they were first in grades; in Fall '17, second in grades; and in Spring '18, again second in grades plus third in intramurals—outstanding consistent performance that demonstrates the SigEp undergraduates are focused on SigEp's mission of "Building Balanced Men," achieved through a commitment to sound mind and sound body. Additionally, the Chapter achieved the Residential Learning Community (RLC) designation from Headquarters. RLC status indicates that the Chapter has a living and learning environment for purposeful, real-life application of their academic studies. It is a prerequisite for winning a Buchanan Cup at the 2019 Conclave. The Alumni Corporation Board continues its commitment to the Chapter to provide facilities that are "as new" when the Chapter members move in on August 11. The members have once again done an excellent job of caring for the facilities. The renovated house has now completed seven years of service, plus we added the 508 facility. We will be investing over $50,000 in the "as new" program by the end of the summer. These funds will cover maintenance, replace missing items and repair damage. Where either is thought to be exceeding "normal wear and tear," it is billed back to the Chapter. As a member of the Chapter's scholarship selection committee, I recently had the opportunity to review the applications of eight members. I was extremely impressed by all of the applicants. What they have accomplished in school and in the Chapter, and the value they place on their SigEp experience, is absolutely amazing. There were many comments about what the SigEp experience has meant to the applicants. The following comment hit home to me: "Sigma Phi Epsilon has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has molded me into a healthy, happy, charismatic and intelligent young man that hasn't even begun to peak." The Chapter's strength is a result of its outstanding performance. They have done an extraordinary job of recruiting good young men and it shows. Please consider making a donation to the Ducal Crown Raise if you have not already done so. Your funds will be used wisely to sponsor the performance-based scholarships that have done so much to establish and maintain a mature Chapter culture. Fraternally, Mike Hurst '74 MO Gamma Alumni Corporation President md_hurst@yahoo.com S enator Mike Kehoe paid a visit to campus to share his experiences and stories to kick off Sigma Phi Epsilon's spring speaker series. Mike has represented the 6th District, encompassing seven central Missouri counties, since 2010. During his time in the senate, Mike has focused on legislation relating to transportation, economic development, and expanding opportunities for small businesses. He currently serves as the Majority Floor Leader where he helps to determine the focus and priorities of the senate as a whole. Having never run for elected office prior to 2010, Mike won a contested election by emphasizing leadership, values, and common sense. These values were instilled in Mike early in his life and have been the core of his approach to business as an employee and as an employer. Recently, Missouri Governor Mike Parson, chose Mike Kehoe as his pick for Lieutenant Governor. Mike is married and has four children. He operates a working cattle ranch on the Gasconade River near Jerome, Missouri. Mike has received many honors, most recently selected as the inaugural Statesman of the Year by The Missouri Times.
