Florida Nu Alumni Volunteer Corporation Florida International University – Sigma Phi Epsilon c/o Pennington & Co. P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested FLORIDA NUS THE S igma Phi Epsilon has been portraying our virtuous characteristics during the 2017-18 school year. Coming off an exceptional summer recruitment class, SigEp is rising to be a top- tier Greek organization at FIU. Surrounded by an ardent Executive Board, SigEp was one of three organizations reinstated after the Greek pause imposed by President Rosenberg. This exemplifies the hard work and tenacity the brothers have portrayed. In addition, the members of SigEp are enthusiastic to be involved on campus. Here are just a few examples of what our great members are doing! • Matthew Beck '20 is studying political science and international relations and raised money and awareness for the South Florida Wildlife Center by having a bake sale located on campus. He was recently awarded one of FIU's First Generation Scholarships that Florida Nu alumni help fund through the Red Door Classic, and in April was elected to fill one of SGA's two Housing SGC-MMC senator positions. • Manny Perez '19 is studying economics and has been nominated as Mr. AmaXing, which is also known as the Sweetheart of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority on campus. His philanthropic campaign raised money and awareness for the Autism Speaks Foundation. • Cesar Santalo '20 is studying organizational and communications, and is a rising singer/song-writer who performed at FIU's Uproar music festival. • Eduardo Pelaez '19 is studying pre-law and was one of the contestants that participated in FIU's Mr. Roarthon competition. His philanthropic campaign raised money and awareness for the Children's Miracle Network. The Chapter nominated our newest Executive Board, and we attended the Carlson Leadership Academy leadership conference in Atlanta, Georgia, learning specific areas of expertise within SigEp. One area we are striving for improvement is recruitment. Our goal is to recruit 25 new members this semester. We will use biweekly brotherhood events to welcome potential new members into SigEp. If you have a recommendation, please contact me at the e-mail below. It's always a great day to be a Florida Nu. Fraternally, Mark Saavedra '18 (Miami, Fla.) Thank you for all of your phone calls and text messages—one undergraduate brother was taken to the hospital for evaluation but is now safe along with the other men of Florida Nu.
