T he Theta Gamma House Corporation would like to give you an update on our chapter house projects from last sum- mer and over the semester break this winter. First, the entire upstairs of the house was con- verted to a new heating and air conditioning system, which allows the women to control the temperature of their own rooms. This system was installed in the north wing the summer before last, and is working very well in the entire house. We are finally off of the boiler system and the women are comfortable all the time. This was a very large and expen- sive project, but well worth the money. Nice faux wooden floors, matching the floors already installed in the north wing, were add- ed to all of the upstairs except the center hall, which we will be put in this summer. We will also remove the built-in desks and buy new, nice white desks and dressers to match the bedroom furniture in the rest of the rooms. With the help of the Parents' Club and our wonderful decorators, Melanie Skaggs Rus- sell '79, Jill Chaffin Splitt '85, and Claudia Bradford Robertson '74, the dining room was completely redecorated, including new wooden floors, a beautiful wall color, new art- work, new chandeliers, and enhanced lighting so it is light enough for the women to study. The dining rooms tables and chests were re- painted and we purchased new chairs. The dining room was transformed into a very styl- ish, light, appealing room. Our dining room now seats 100 girls. Giant washers and dryers were added to the laundry room and one new set was installed in a small room behind the snack kitchen for our staff to use for items around the house, including things like tablecloths and bath- room floormats. We also remodeled the snack kitchen. We installed new windows in the second floor rooms facing Delta beach. This summer we will finish this window project when we in- stall the second floor windows on the west side of the house. Overall, it was really busy last summer and holiday break. We are already busy planning for this summer. Our main projects will be the center hall floors and furniture and the west wing windows. Our decorating team will sur- prise the women with some updates funded by the Parents' Club. The House Corporation is busy working on our long-term plans. As you may know, sev- eral fraternities at OU have completely new chapter houses. About 15 years ago Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority built a lovely meet- ing room across the street from their chapter house, and over the past two years Chi Ome- ga sorority replaced all downstairs windows, installed new siding on the back and sides of the house, gutted and remodeled their en- tire downstairs (including moving the entire NEWS D E L T A D E L T A D E L T A t U N I V E R S I T Y O F O K L A H O M A t S P R I N G 2 0 1 8 Theta Gamma Busy Summer Ahead for Theta Gamma HOUSE CORPORATION UPDATES THE HOUSE FOR THE FUTURE (Continued on page 4) T ri Delta Nationals challenged Theta Gamma to do something other chap- ters would have thought impossible: raise $15,000 for our national philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in just 24 hours! To add more pressure, we had less than one week to plan for the event, which we named the $15K in 24 Hours Campaign. In preparation for the fundraiser, the infor- mal living room of our chapter house was transformed into a call center, complete with tables, decorations, and plenty of snacks. Sisters were encouraged to visit the house to make calls, send emails, update their Ins- tagram accounts, and post on Twitter. We began the $15K in 24 Hours Campaign im- mediately after Sunday night Chapter. Using the social media hashtag, #15KinADay, we tweeted, published Facebook posts, messaged on Instagram, responded to emails from the local alumnae chapter, and made numerous calls asking for contributions. University of Oklahoma President David Boren, as well as Barry Switzer and Trevor Knight, even joined in the excitement. By early morning, with 12 hours remaining in the campaign, we reached our $15,000 goal—but we didn't stop there! When $15K in 24 Hours concluded at midnight on Monday, Theta Gamma had raised a total of $38,253 for Theta Gamma was challenged by Tri Delta Nationals to raise $15,000 in 24 hours for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In a single day, our members advocated, fund- raised, raised awareness, and promoted the St. Jude mission. Great work, sisters!
