Page 2 I t is hard to believe that it has been a year since more than 400 gathered for our centennial celebration weekend in 2017. A gala banquet was held at Multnomah Athletic Club on Saturday, April 22, to celebrate our 100th anniversary and to kick off our second century of brotherhood. e MAC Grand Ballroom was at capacity with over 385 alumni, undergraduates, spouses, and guests in attendance. e evening began with a reception and some time to remi- nisce with brothers and to view yearbooks and pictures. Included was a display honoring David Gilkey '86-1218, who lost his life in Afghanistan in June 2016 while serving as a photojournalist for National Public Radio. Gerry Reese '71-862 served as the master of ceremonies. e program began with a greeting from OSU Assistant Dean of Student Life, Leslie Schacht Drey, followed by a State of the Chap- ter message by High Alpha Tyler Lee '15-1844. Additional speakers and messages were given by High Pi and Grand High Iota Dave Leathers, Iota Gamma 666, National Alumni Development Of- ficer Allen Horton, and Grand High Kappa Dr. Scott Reikofski. Bill Deeks '67-789 provided us with some historical prospective and Bruce Pe- tersen '77-1000 spoke about the challenges and opportunities for our second century. Undergraduate brothers provided a lively per- formance of Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," which they had been preparing for the All-University Sing (see Sing article on page 4). We also en- joyed videos highlighting the undergraduates' 2016-2017 academic year. Finally, Bill Deeks led a champagne toast honoring brothers who have passed on and Craig Baughnsmith '92-1355 played "Amazing Grace" on his bagpipes as he departed the banquet hall. Our lowest zeta num- bers in attendance were Bob Madsen '47-532 and Roy Gaussoin '53-632. Brothers traveled great distances to participate, including from Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, and Virginia. e weekend began on ursday, April 20, when brothers had an opportunity to gather informal- ly at Brian McMenamin's '77-997 Edgefield, to socialize and reconnect while enjoying pizza and beer. en, on Friday, April 21, many brothers gathered at Top Golf in Hillsboro for fun and re- laxation. Prior to the celebration on Saturday, brothers had an opportunity to view a Ritual Exemplification with four Honorary Initiates. e four new broth- ers were Josh Leathers, AL 1968, Ryan Lofgren, AL 1969, Melvin Riddick, AL 1970 and Mike Treadaway, AL 1971. For many brothers, it had been considerable time since they have observed our beautiful ritual. Many thanks to all who attended and helped make this a great celebration!
