G reetings, sisters! Spring is upon us and things are beginning to start anew! We, Kristen Onkka '05 and Jacqueline Mohr '05, have recently taken on the co-president role for Xi's House Corporation Board. We are both excited to hit the ground running, not only to keep the house—our home—running smoothly, but to continue the progress set by those before us in ensuring Xi remains one of the best living spaces on campus! HCB held our goal-setting meeting for the summer and is exploring new flooring options for "new addition" (the hallway above the dining room), replacing the blinds on first floor, and sprucing up the furnishings in the basement. Those of you who were in the house in the early 2000s probably remember the red couch that was in the basement. Guess what? It's still there! We are looking to combine funds from a recent donation and the Parent's Club to purchase a new couch and some other coordinated pieces for the women to enjoy as they bond over movies, music, and laughter. There are no large plans for house updates this summer, as we feel the need in the house is for all of us passionate sisters to come together. It's time to once again strengthen our bond and surround our young women with a strong support system. What does that mean for you? There are many different ways to come back home and help your sisters; time, talents, and treasures are great ways to start! COME HOME… AND GIVE YOUR TIME Are you a young alumna who might not be ready financially to give a donation? Or are you a sister who enjoys behind-the-scenes work that involves interfacing with others, goal setting, and problem solving? Then the ever important donation of time is perfect for you! There are different ways that you can connect with the chapter via boards that allow you to give your time to Xi. The Educational Corporation is diligently working toward strengthening the academic standing of the house by providing scholarships and recognizing those young women in Xi who are excelling academically. The House Corporation Board works on the physical characteristics in the house and works with the chapter and house director on maintenance and fixture needs as they arise. The Advisory Board provides support to each of the individual ladies who step up at Xi and lead their sisters by serving on Exec. Each board requires a different time commitment, but we are all looking to build and grow to show our younger sisters that the time spent in and for Xi goes well beyond four years in college. COME HOME… AND GIVE YOUR TALENTS There are so many sisters out there who have talents they can contribute toward Xi to help us grow and remain strong. If a long-term commitment is not feasible, but you have the ability to help with short-term projects, such as fundraising, marketing, social events, etc., we would still love to find a way you to share your talents! You can be a project committee member on the House Corporation Board, brush off your recruitment skills and volunteer at the house during recruitment week, or join one of the alumni associations and assist in building the alumni network throughout the state. COME HOME… AND GIVE YOUR TREASURES Lastly, there is the donation of treasures. If time and talents are not your preferred way to donate to Xi, monetary donations are always welcome. As mentioned before, the Educational Corporation uses funds to support sisters with scholarships and the House Corporation Board works on updates to the house. A future goal for the House Corporation Board is to do a total remodel of the current bathrooms on the second and third floors. Very few updates have been focused on the bathrooms over the last years, so we know we have a lot of work to do in the near future. Obviously, this will not be a small undertaking, and we will certainly need our sisters to donate their treasures toward this project, so we are able to ensure our collegiate sisters continue getting ready together in a fabulous bathroom at Xi. WHICH WILL YOU CHOOSE? As we bring this letter to an end, we would like to thank all of our sisters who have helped Xi over the years. We know that HCB would not be in the position we are today, nor would Xi be the chapter that it is, without the support of everyone who still holds Xi near and dear to their hearts. We are excited to take on our new roles as we work diligently to continue to strengthen Xi and call all of our sisters home. It is time for all of us to take our efforts to the next level so that our collegians can see what being a real, strong woman for a lifetime is all about. We ask that you all reflect on what the chapter has meant to you and decide to come home in any way you can!
