Our collegians are busy with classes and Greek Week. The chapter is thriving with over 100 members living in this year, and campus is in an upswing with enrollment on the rise again. To help the facility run efficiently with the increased number of women living in our newly renovated space, Facility Corporation Board hired another part-time housekeeper to help Denise Dodson with her weekly duties. For those who aren't aware, Denise has been working for Alpha Mu for over 17 years now. She is the backbone of our beautiful facility, and we are so thankful for her sincere care and institutional knowledge of the building. She remains as dedi- cated as ever, and we were glad to find a second reliable woman, Sandee Bales, to help out. Now that work has wrapped up at the house, there are fewer home projects to share with you. Therefore, we will begin featuring a different room of the house in each semester's mailer, so you get a grasp of how our home is utilized by today's collegians. To kick us off, I would like to focus on the foyer since it is the first impression recruits, visitors, and sisters get of our home. As we worked with PCE and Studio Home, we agreed that we wanted to lighten up the space to make it bright and inviting, especially since we knew we were losing the windows in the spiral staircase. We added a beautiful, but not overwhelming, chandelier to the space along with new parquet flooring that is the exact same cut and pattern of the original wood flooring. The stain is slightly lighter to brighten up the space as well, but we found it important to hang on to the traditional herringbone aesthetic. We hope this new floor will last for more than 70 years as did its predecessor. The other focus of the foyer was on the beauty of our unique spiral staircase. We recognized that it is an iconic feature of our home, and we wanted to highlight that. So the stairwell and railing received fresh paint and carpeting. We also wanted to preserve the staircase windows even though they were being covered by rooms on the opposite side, so we replaced the windowpanes with breath-taking stained glass. The basement- level window showcases our letters surrounded by pansies. The first-floor window features a scene at the Columns with kites flying in the sky, and the second-floor window displays our crest. As for how the women use the space, the foyer has become a more formal entryway since moving the mail room and package storage downstairs. The women don't casually hang out in this space as much, as we've added more relaxed spaces throughout the house, but the foyer is still busy on game days. We hope the space remains a sharp first impression of our home, and we hope you will make a visit to 603 Kentucky every chance you get. You are always welcome home!
