6 Lyre Notes Seeking the Heights Undergraduates Remain Committed to Academics, Philanthropy H ello from the Alpha Nu Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega! My name is Ju- lia Saak, and I am the 2018 chapter president. I am excited and proud to talk about what our chapter achieved this past semester. As a chapter, we have continued to Seek the Heights in terms of academ- ics. Our chapter grade point average is 3.38 and an impressive 27 women (10 percent of our chapter) achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall 2017 semester. We maintain a commitment to our philanthropy, True North, a domestic violence shelter in Columbia. In October, we changed up our philanthropy events, swapping Desserts and Pies for Burgers and Fries with Alpha Chis. We also tried out a new competition that same weekend, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. During this event, men signed up to run a relay race in our old wedges from recruitment week. Not only were these events a blast to put on, but with the help of the Mizzou and Greek communities, we were able to raise an astounding $27,345 to benefit True North. We were active participants in Mizzou's 106th Homecoming, Rhythm of the Roar. Paired with the men of Sigma Nu and Zeta Beta Tau, our theme was Friday Night Football. We ended up winning both the Merchandise and Service categories! Alpha Nu continues to strive for excellence. Thank you all for your love and support, and know that you can drop by the chapter house any time. Walk a Mile took place the afternoon of October 6 at the track on Stankowski Field. Each group had four runners compete in a relay around the track wearing high heeled shoes. In addition to the relay, there was music, food and a speaker from True North, the Columbia-based shelter supported by Alpha Nu. Twenty-five teams participated. Burgers and Fries was from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. later that night. Members welcomed more than 800 people to the chapter house for hamburgers, French fries and toppings—all for $5. The chapter hosted the Mr. Alpha Chi competi- tion at 11 p.m. on the chapter's parking lot on Tiger Avenue behind the chapter house. Contestants were judged on their talent (singing, danc- ing and comedy) and responses to a questionnaire, which included questions about domestic violence awareness and Alpha Chi Omega history. Ten men competed for Mr. Alpha Chi. The winner was a fresh- man member of Sigma Nu fraternity, Noah Luecke. Homecoming is always a good time to reconnect. These women met at the chapter house on October 20, 2017, to view house decorations in Greektown.
