the memorabilia is on display. Some-
times there is a daughter or niece with
them, which is a lovely experience to
pass along."
One of Caroline's most memorable
visits occurred when she facilitated
a proposal. A couple, who had met
more than 20 years prior at Purdue
University through a Sigma Kappa
sister, became engaged on the Bean
in front of the chapter house. "It was
such a sweet moment that I will never
forget. It spoke volumes about the
connections made here and the life-
long impact those connections can
make."
She encourages any alumna to visit
427 North Russell Street and for un-
dergraduate women to cherish their
time with their sisters. "Becoming the
house director at Sigma Kappa has
been a surprising and wonderful ex-
perience. I'm always glad to get back
after breaks and feel thankful for this
work every day." Caroline can be

The Bonds of
Lavender and Maroon
A
fter moving from Arizona to Indiana to
be closer to her son and granddaugh-
ter, Caroline Sandorff was first intro-
duced to Sigma Kappa through one of her son's
friends. Since then, she has never regretted her
decision to be a part of Beta Sigma's daily life.
"These ladies are good people and good sisters.
When they have setbacks and life becomes dif-
ficult they display strong character. Witnessing
their maturation from their time as a new mem-
ber to graduate is quite satisfying because Sigma
Kappa women are caring, hardworking, and a
credit to their families."
Even though 2018 marks Caroline's fifth year
as house director for Beta Sigma, she still finds
new joys every day. "My own two daughters
laugh and tease me about my 'other daughters,'
knowing how proud I am of them all. Overhear-
ing one woman encourage another in the lunch
line, laughter on the stairs, playing the piano, or
seeing them studying, even on the
weekends, are all things that make
me proud and happy to be part of
their college experience."
Caroline's goal is to always pro-
mote a safe and peaceful environ-
ment where Beta Sigma women
can continue to expand their strong
sisterhood. "I try to keep things run-
ning smoothly so their time can be
spent on those things. Not every ex-
perience is positive in college, and I
hope that in a time of need all who
need an ear feel they can be heard."
In fall 2017, the women of Beta
Sigma returned the favor in a re-
markable way. On September 5,
Caroline's son passed away due to
an unknown heart condition. From
offering comforting words to setting
up a fund to finance Caroline's trip
home, the ladies of Sigma Kappa
went above and beyond. "Their
kindness has meant so much to me,
especially this year, and I will al-
ways be grateful."
Several times a year alumnae will
visit West Lafayette and ask to see
the chapter house. "It's always fun
to reconnect Beta Sigmas by direct-
ing them to the formal room where
