TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2018 Gamma Upsilon Earns Highest GPA in Chapter History T hings are going very well at the Gamma Upsi- lon Chapter, and we are very excited for what is to come. Our chapter continues to reach record numbers in membership each semester, and we can attribute this to many reasons. The House Over the winter break, our chapter was blessed to receive yet another very generous renovation to our house thanks to our Board of Trustees, Mrs. Danielle Loven, and her company Vivid Interior. This time around it was in our dining room, which received brand-new tables and chairs. Another fantastic addition to our chapter from the fall semester has been our new chef, Lori, who is our mom away from home. Lori goes above and beyond every single day to pre- pare top-of-the-line lunches and dinners for our brothers, and is someone who we cherish very deeply. She has even prepared meals for our Dads Day in the fall, Moms Day in the spring, multiple scholarship dinners, and many other special events that would not have been as suc- cessful without her presence. Academics Academically, Gamma Upsilon has reached heights that it hasn't seen in its 110-year history at Iowa State. Last spring our chapter received a 3.16 GPA (the highest GPA on record), and last fall we received a 3.14 GPA. Our chapter strives for academic excellence and we expect mem- bers to dedicate themselves to their schoolwork above all else. This has shown in our last two GPA reports, and we are continuously on the rise among chapters with the best GPAs in the Greek community at ISU. Philanthropic and Community Efforts During this semester's Moms Day, we held a silent and live auction for gift baskets that members' mothers brought to be auctioned off. The event raised $2,548 and all proceeds went to ACCESS Assault Care Shelter, our primary philanthropic organization. Members have also attended multiple food drives for the needy in Ames, the annual Dance Marathon for the Uni- versity of Iowa Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network, and also hosted our biannual philanthropy. This semester's philanthropy was called Donut Let Love Hurt, where we sold Krispy Kreme donuts on cam- pus to raise awareness for victims of domestic and sexual violence with proceeds going to AC- CESS Assault Care Shelter. Brotherhood The Gamma Upsilon brotherhood has never been greater. Brothers are continuously partici- pating in events such as intramural sports and Homecoming and Greek Week activities. New tables and chairs that were received over the winter break. They are a huge upgrade from the plastic tables and chairs that were previously in the house. Members participat- ing in the 2017 Polar Bear Plunge. It was a chilly but awesome day for our broth- ers and for raising funds for the Special Olympics of Iowa.
