5 Chi Zetagram Brothers Steve Parsons, Phi Beta 341 (High Pi) and John Crook '72 X980 represented Chi Zeta at the 2018 ΛΧΑ Neville College training program in Indianapolis February 16-17. Steve was moderator at several sessions and John attended to learn more about structuring our Alumni Association and upcoming House Corporation for best practices. The Neville College is an opportunity for alumni of all chapters who are involved with supporting the undergraduate members to receive training and share experiences. John Kannapell '77 X1068 graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career at Northrop Grumman in 1981 and spent the next 11 years on the B-2 program in mechanism design. He then worked on the F/A-18E/F program in El Segundo until around 2001. John thought the F-18 was tough until he got on the JSF (F-35) program. He worked on three different airplanes for prime contractor Lockheed—a huge challenge but also a career highlight. John retired in 2012 after 31 years at Northrop. He married Jodi in 1994, and they've been settled in Torrance, Calif. He still keeps in touch with some fellow pledge brothers, mostly on Facebook. He was really glad to see photos and videos of the new house and was happy to contribute Rob Lacey '90 X1396 has been working as a Chicago firefighter/EMT B for the last 18 years. For the last four years, he's also worked as a certified athletic trainer for Athletico Phyiscal Therapy Clinic. Rob is married and has two boys, ages 11 and 14. He and his family live in Chicago, Ill. ALUMNI UPDATE F or those alumni who are over 70 years old, some of you may be required to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from an IRA account. There is a gifting strategy you may want to consider before the end of year. Your IRA custodian can send funds directly from your account to the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation. You must include "Attention: Chi Zeta Project" in order to allocate the funds correctly. The money you choose to donate will not be included in your personal taxable income, but will satisfy the RMD. As a second option, for appreciated stock in a taxable account or in certificate form, if you gift those shares to the Educational Foundation (again noting "For Chi Zeta Project" as above) you can deduct the full value of the stock and not have to claim the capital gains it has achieved. Think of Chi Zeta in your end-of-the-year decisions—we appreciate your continual support! Required Minimum Distributions Give Back to Chi Zeta through the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation B rothers, our important plans to transition the Chi Zetagram and other communications to electronic distribution are moving forward fast! Although we'll all miss seeing these in our mailbox, you'll get even more complete and timely information about your brothers and Chi Zeta in your inbox. But we are missing accurate e-mail addresses for many of you, so please— take a minute to send us an email at news@ChiZeta.com. We Need Your E-mail Address! W e are honored to report that our House Director, Josue Hernandez, was recognized by University of Illinois Fraternity and Sorority Affairs as the Outstanding House Director for 2018! A special trophy was presented to Josue on March 13 at the 2018 Greek Oscars event, with Chapter President Matt Rowley '16 X2163 on hand to cheer. Josue joined us as resident director last fall and helped open our new house (with all the headaches of transition!). Although he is completing his undergraduate studies this semester, he has been accepted into the Master's of Accounting Science program at the university and will be returning next year as our director. In typical modest fashion, when asked about this impressive (and much-deserved) honor, Josue simply replied, "I am by far not the best resident director, but feel as though I have fully committed myself to LCA's core values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage, and I expect that the members do the same. I cannot fail if I simply follow LCA's core values, and I will continue to do so." Wow! Josue, you have our respect and gratitude.
