The lion's lore page 2 H ere at Kansas Beta, we are fighting the good fight to be the top fraternity at Kansas State University. With the hard work and determination of the members and support from our alumni, we have greatly improved our status on campus. The impact can be seen through our recruitment of outstanding men. We already have record numbers of potential members for next fall, in addition to bringing in three of the best men on campus this spring. Our culture includes a constant push to be the best we can be in every aspect of brotherhood and to really live the True Gentlemen. To be the best in every aspect of fraternity, the chapter set lofty goals for 2018: • Achieve a 3.4 GPA • Win Homecoming • Be top five in intramurals • Create longstanding philanthropies • Deliver over 2,400 community service hours • Foster an increased social presence ACADEMICS Academics remains our top priority. Our spring 2017 GPA was 3.3, fourth place on campus, with 20% of our members achieving a 4.0. Our fall 2017 GPA was 3.2 with our stated goal of delivering a 3.4 this spring semester. Obtaining this goal could place SAE, once again, in the top five of all fraternities on campus. KANSAS BETA WINS HOMECOMING We accomplished one of our big goals of the year by winning fall 2017 Homecoming with our partners, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Kappa Phi. The large effort we put in as a house made winning even more special. We have now won Homecoming two out of the past three years. We also won the academic bracket challenge, allowing us to pick our partners for next year in defense of our championship title. INTRAMURALS We have always been a great athletic house, and we are set on continuing that tradition. Our goal is to be in the top five after finishing sixth last fall. We made great strides in football this fall, making a deep playoff run. In addition to team sports, we have accomplished great things in individual sports such as a championship in the 3-point basketball contest, first place in wrestling, and a second place finish in FIFA. As we look toward the spring 2018 semester, we have our strongest sports ahead, including basketball, softball, and indoor soccer, that will prime us to finish inside the top five. RAISED OVER $2,500 FOR CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK This past fall we hosted two events to raise money for our national philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Our first was Mac-n-Cheese with SAE. This is our traditional philanthropy where we host an all-you-can-eat mac-n-cheese event at the chapter house. In addition, we held a glow-in-the-dark Zumba class at the student union and invited the community to have fun, exercise, and do something great for the kids. BROTHER CAMPBELL IFC PRESIDENT On December 4, 2017, former E.A. Jeremy Campbell '19 was sworn in as Kansas State Interfraternity Council President. With IFC now an independent student organization, Jeremy has implemented new policies to improve the relationship with the university and the reputation of fraternities across campus. His education policies were voted on unanimously by the entire IFC organization (see page 3). Jeremy is leading a major preventative education program, not just for fraternities locally, but setting a standard for Greek life across the country. WRAP-UP With a new executive team in place for 2018, that has plenty of ideas and enthusiasm to push us to the top, it has never been so exciting to be an SAE. If you are ever in Manhattan, please stop by and look around the house. We will be more than happy to let you see firsthand just how great things are going. I encourage you to join us on April 21 for the Kansas Beta Alumni Day (see page 4 for a list of activities). We are all so thankful for your contributions. We want you to be recognized and to share in our gratitude. We would not be here without you.
