I am the new president of the KSU Interfraternity Council (IFC). Our purpose is to support chapters in any way that we reasonably can and to provide vision and direction for the 25 fraternities at Kansas State. As a first step, we are revolutionizing the way we look at educational programs. By this, I mean we as IFC will mandate the completion of four core education programs: alcohol awareness, local event policies, anti-hazing, and sexual assault prevention. For the last requirement, sexual assault prevention, we as a community have partnered with the Kansas State CARE Office (Center for Advocacy, Response and Education), which is in the midst of attempting to spread awareness of a new evidence-based training on a national level. For the first time, fraternities and sororities will come together in large numbers and address the issue together. Additionally, we will keep track of other educational programming that fraternities offer their members and spread that information to potential members of fraternities. The program creates a recruitment and marketing tool for the entire Greek system while simultaneously advancing the goals and interests of university departments. The overall intention of the program is to assist in creating a fraternal culture that ultimately results in fewer incidents and one that alumni can be proud of.
