When the gates are open, fresh water is drawn from the Sacramento River into the interior of the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta through Snodgrass Slough and the Mokelumne River; they also allow for boat traffic to pass. When closed, the gates pre- vent salmon from being diverted from their migra- tory route up the Sacramento River. SACRAMENTO —California is home to more than 1.3 million licensed motorcyclists and some of the best riding weather year round. Unfor- tunately, the state has also experienced an increase in the number of people killed m motorcycle-involved colli- sions. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is preparing to address the problem with the help of a federal grant that will fond a yearlong, lifesav- ing effort. "Motorcycle awareness is a priority for the California Highway Patrol and a key to saving lives on the roadway," said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. "Education combined with enforce- ment will help reinforce the concept that all motorists need to safely share Each year hundreds of motorcy- clists are killed in collisions and thou- sands are injured. Motorcycle awareness is a priority for CHP the road." the CHP, there has been nearly a 20 percent increase m the number of motorcyclists killed from 2010 to 2011. The recent increase follows a two-year decline (2008-2010) in motorcycle-involved collisions. To reverse the trend and reduce According to preliminary data from motorcycle-involved collisions result- ing in injury or death, the CHP has began an intensive public awareness campaign which will run through Sept. 30, 2013. Funding for the California Motor- Boaters are advised to continue to check the sta- tus of the gates to avoid problems in moving through the DCCG. Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach died as a result of ''asphyxia due to choking and aspiration of gastric contents,'' according to the report released by the Broward County medical examiner's office. It said his airway was obstructed by the roach body parts, which caused him to not be able to breathe. ''There is a flap called the epiglottis that is supposed to stop objects from going into the lungs,'' medical examiner Craig T. Mallak wrote in an email to the AP. ''Unfortunately, it doesn't always work. In the video you could see him trying to swallow and breathe at the same time. We can't do both simultaneously.'' Lab tests for drugs came back negative. The death has been ruled an accident. ''It's hard to even think about it,'' said Kim Craw- ford, co-owner of Busch Canvas & Interiors where Archbold worked for four years. ''It does bring a little closure because not knowing always puts that question mark out there.'' winning roach-eating contest MIAMI (AP) — A Florida man choked to death Man choked to death after In Print Every Tuesday - Thursday- Saturday $ 109 Per Month No early cancellation, non-refundable Clock Repair 530-736-7079 Grandpa's Clocks 20910 Pebblestone Dr. Red Bluff Jim Paul Electrical clocks Call for appt.
